Pros

Their therapy programs have helped patients. I have also seen many patients leave in a worse condition than they came in with.

Cons

Shepherd Center runs its company like a modern day plantation. There are no chances for advancement in the minority community. I have been employed here for years and nothing has changed. It's sad that a company like this has developed such a good reputation and is allowed to get away with this type of behavior. Unequal pay and unequal advancement opportunities. Shepherd Center has been in business over 40 years and has only had three minorities (person of color)to reach Senior Management status. Two of them just were brought up to Senior Management last year and one of them are gone. Prior to last year, only one person of color has reached Senior Management. No other person of color has reached Senior Management status or Vice President status in these 40 years of business. Whoever complains about this or speaks on this type of behavior are usually terminated to make an example and to scare the other employees. It's a vicious cycle that continues to occur. They receive millions in donations a year so they don't care about the ramifications of losing millions do to their terrible business decisions they continue make. They truly don't care and nothing will ever change until someone with true status, like a news reporter or TV station comes and investigates this behavior. If these companies and wealthy people knew that their donor dollars were being used to support inequality and over spending, most would surely stop donating their hard earned money. Someone needs to give some attention to a serious issue that is almost half a century in the making and continues to occur. They will never change as long as people continue to turn a blind eye to this horrific behavior. I have given things a chance to change but it hasn't so I am currently in the process of leaving because I can't continue to support a company that judges people simply because of their skin color.

We are sorry this is your perception. In fact, Shepherd Center values all forms of diversity. We are proud to say our diversity includes race, color, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, and disability just to name a few. Shepherd Center is committed to creating an environment where diversity is valued and all employees have a chance to be promoted based upon their skills and qualifications. We also actively seek to expand our diversity at all levels of management including senior management. The current diversity on our senior team includes three people of color as well as a significant representation of women. As a facility specifically dedicated to rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities we have focused on ensuring our diversity also includes individuals with disabilities all throughout the Center including Board membership. There is always room to improve and we are constantly looking for ways to include and expand representation of our diverse population.

Pros

There are wonderful programs that benefit the patients as well as the families. The hospital staff work well together as a team and for the most part it is a friendly place to work.

Cons

Management is often the cause of a lot of tension in the work place due to inadequate communication skills with the staff. The miscommunication ranges from contributing unwarranted input on patients they are not familiar with to sweeping obvious staff retention issues under the rug. There is also an air of mistrust that causes a lot of perception problems and often forced resignation or termination of a staff member which increases the staff retention issue - it's a vicious cycle that upper management is hopefully taking note of in their assessment of the hospital's programs.

Pros

Flexible work schedule is the only real perk. The management is full of nice people but nice people dont always make the best managers.

Cons

Pay, working environment, lack of respect for IT employees, there is zero room for growth or vertical movement for any IT pros.

Thank you for providing your perspective. Shepherd Center has experienced significant growth and with that comes a need to increase our focus on the IT infrastructure. To that end, we are upgrading the IT function and are hiring a Chief Information Officer. Our CIO will provide a focus and new perspectives for how we manage our IT resources in the future. We hope it will be an exciting change for our IT professionals.
