Pros

Option available to work from home. Some schedule flexibility. Great coworkers. Connection to a valued culture that deserves to be supported. That’s why I’m still here.

Cons

Years ago, the company supported the interpreters. We are the reason this company exists. Now we are treated like numbers and can even get the required hours because they over staffed. Full time, but not getting enough hours to maintain status. 15 years with this company and now, while on an open FMLA case…I’m losing hours a set schedule I’ve been working for years. We are required to accept rude comments, abuse and undeserved complaints from customers constantly. Some new hires make more per hour than those here for over a decade, but we aren’t supposed to communicate about it among ourselves….

Pros

Provides a vital service for the Deaf community

Cons

Corporate capitalism has wormed its way into the field of interpreting -putting profits over people. I have witnessed the downfall in the following ways: Cut hours of well experienced interpreters in favor of hiring students and inexperienced interpreters at the lowest pay scale. Laid off center supervisors who have put years of excellent service to the organization with little notice. Now all centers have regional supervisors who are only available for brief windows of time. Continually cutting hours of interpreters, claiming call volume is too low, yet Deaf consumers are placed in a holding cue rather than adequate staffing to keep call volume at a sustainable level. Working conditions due to above reasons have become so intolerable that many interpreters are leaving. This impacts the Deaf community in a big way with long hold times and low call quality.

Pros

Flexible schedule, vacation time, work independently with minimal supervision, very interesting industry to be apart of. Ops Coordinator is a great entry level position that can help beef up Excel skills.

Cons

Negative/toxic work environment, No opportunity for growth, Hard workers are blatantly taken advantage of without proper compensation, Poor pay/compensation, Terrible work/life balance, The company is comprised of two tiers (operations & interpreting) that often work against each other, Middle management is poor, Unfair practices
