Pros

You can work from home and create your own schedule.

Cons

Wow where do I begin. They tell you that you will be making at least 5k a month with "hard work" and if you "follow the program" all will be dandy. Unfortunately the program is a joke and I am glad I figured them out before I went bankrupt. You have to make at least 200 cold calls a week to set up appointments. The only catch is that there are at least 10 other people calling in your same area. You WILL cross paths with other Area Directors and it is sinful. Businesses find this ugly and unprofessional and some people I have called even rehashed the stupid pitch; "wouldn't you like to be a part of our magazine we have pictures of dogs and kids!" Lastly when you do meet face to face with prospective businesses they laugh at the 3 year contract. Most print advertisers will allow 3-12 month contracts. A 12 month contract is our VERY MINIMUM. This is a tough sell and most prospective clients will laugh at you. The training was horrible and you had to fly to Chicago on your own dime to attend it. The training was worthless and they should have mailed me the cheap training manual and I would have saved over 1k. I should have known better....All of the big shots were from CUTCO. CUTCO was the biggest scam company, and they were shut down by the Federal Government. BEWARE!

N2, The Mary Kay of Publishing

Pros

I honestly don't have any pros. Not bitter or snippy, just don't have any. Entire experience was just plain awful. The product could have been good but N2 is so greedy, they set you up for failure. In the end, they're becoming like the Mary Kay of publishing.

Cons

Trainees in Chicago kept asking each other privately what the 'catch' is. N2 makes it all seem like if you work hard, you can build a life where you'll be taking your family to the Bahamas 2 months out of the year. They paint a picture where it can happen within a year. We all smelled a Mary Kay rat, but didn't feel a 'Christian' company would be anything less than straight with us. Yes, you'll hear them tout Christian beliefs over and over. Don't be fooled! Christianity is used as a lure to make prospects feel they can trust the company and their system but N2 is just as greedy to get rich as anybody else and you mean nothing to them other than that you can make them richer. N2 will come off all forthright that some don't make it, but the actual percentage who fail is quite high. N2 also doesn't tell you they're going to saturate your terrirtory with as many AD's (sales reps) as they can because they know many of you will fail/quit. You'll have AD's popping up all over and you'll all be calling on the same people. It will be embarrassing, frustrating,.. unprofessional. There are no territories, so you'll all be calling the same prospects, over and over, and over. It's ugly, demoralizing even. Ever try to sell an air sandwich? How about one that's not even good? Clients know the product quality stinks in many cases because N2's focus is on ads sales, not content quality. Yes, they have some pretty covers, but many times that's about it. Many prospective businesses know this and will make every effort to let you know what they think of the N2 product. N2 will also preach that the only ones who fail at this venture are those who don't apply themselves, and that if you simply hunker down and follow thier step by step system, you can be up and running, in print, money coming in, within 4 months, *if* you hunker down and follow their proven system. Nonsense. First off, I'd recommend you have 6 months *minimum* savings to live on until you can get money coming in and maybe 12 to be sure. Second, you can't succeed if you've got multiple AD's all calling the same clients -- it's a set up for failure. N2 also tells you that you can do this part time. NO, you can't . No one can. It takes massive amounts of time and money. The part time ruse is designed to get everyone they can in deep enough so they've got one more drone making them richer. Yes, [it appears] some do make it, but I have to wonder. I busted tail for some months before running out of savings and realized the rate of time to succeed was far more than what they told me. If you've got nothing better to do, and if you've got an infinite financial line to burn through, then go for it. It could work out good for you and you could be making a good amount. But if you've got a steady job, and especially if you've got a family, I'd recommend keeping your job.. and your family. As for the Mary Kay jab, I have no proof, but I sure wonder. N2 will never tell you how much bonus money the regional directors get for pulling in recruits, but it always seemed like the only ones making the big money was those regional directors. Bottom line, I say 83% chance (actual fail rate I observed from trainees I kept in touch with) this will be one of the worst experiences of your life. Be very sure before you commit.

Pros

I started working with N2 Publishing in March of 2015. There were no publications in Miami at the time and it is not an easy market to work in. In 6 months I was already in print and making 5k+ in residual per month. There are 3 major areas of the business: sales, networking and gathering content from residents, and organizing small events. N2 completely prepares you to be successful in all of the different aspects of the business. There are 2 conference calls per week with amazing leaders / speakers that address several areas of the business. There are 3 major conferences per year that require a short distance of travel, but are very beneficial for improving your skills, attitude and understanding of the business. The first six months of working in the business are most likely going to revolve solely on sales. Once your publication is ready to go to print, you must balance sales, and networking / gathering content from residents, and organizing small events. It takes a few weeks / months to really get the hang of doing all those things at the same time, but it becomes increasingly easier the longer you are in the company. Over 800 people have been able to learn to balance these things and run a successful business. So that should tell you, that pretty much anyone can do it, if they are willing to follow the system that N2 has designed. By August of 2016 there were 3 publications in print in the Miami market (2 of which are mine), and I was making 12k+ plus per month in residual. The hardest part of N2 is managing your emotions and the ups and downs of sales (as in any sales job), as well as keeping your activity level up (as you do not have a boss breathing down your neck and making sure you are working). My work life balance is way better than a traditional 9-5 business. I have been able to take numerous vacations and spontaneous 3 day weekends with my family. I have 2 small children under 3 years old so although my life is quite busy, the lifestyle I can live with N2 is truly unparalleled. If you can handle sales, and are a people person that connects well with individuals, this could be an amazing job for you. Pros of working at N2? - Support and mentoring from incredible leaders. - Ability to make great income working 40 or less hours per week. - Flexibility in schedule. - Owning your own business that you can sell at a later date. - Plenty of opportunities to move up in management. - N2 invests in helping their employees grow in their personal lives.

Cons

- Must be willing to be humble and follow the N2 program, even if you think you could come up with a better system. - You will have to learn to manage the roller-coaster of emotions that surround a sales job that is 100% commission. - You will have to learn to be organized and manage several unrelated tasks at the same time. - You will have to learn how to have faith that if you do the work, the results will come.
