Strange Place

Pros

Flexible Hybrid Schedule People are Friendly/Hardworking Very Diverse and accurately represents the unique demographic of NYC

Cons

The turnover rate is ABYSMAL and Leadership refuses to address why this is. People are either there for a year or they've been there 15+ years. Disorganized, partially because of the high turnover rate and how long it takes people to be on-boarded/trained to begin with, only for them to leave once it hits them the juice isn't worth the squeeze. There is extreme favoritism from the ELT with regards to which departments they favor and pour their time and energy into. It means some departments thrive, while others flounder due to a lack of support. There was a very cliquish structure amongst Senior Leadership and everyone else. The attitude is noticeable and it creates a feeling of have/have-nots, which is a strange culture to be procuring at a Charity.

Pros

Good mission and purpose. UWW provides lots of $ to local communities all around the world. Benefits are okay. Free parking. I was really excited when I got the job. if I was in graduate school, working at UWW would make for a great case study.

Cons

CEO gets paid 750,000 a year. He says his job is to plan ahead five years. But, in the last five years, he has reorganized UWW 3 times. in the most recent re-org (11/2012) 60 people lost their jobs and none of those were executive management. Career paths don't exist in an organization that continually destroys itself. Morale, as you can imagine, is horrible. Directors treat staff terribly and VPs turn a blind eye to blatant mismanagement because they are afraid to lose their jobs. "Rules" are enforced erratically often due to favoritism and cliques. I wish I could say more.

Pros

The general work of the organization is amazing and you're always given the opportunity to see the work in action.

Cons

- The leadership (ELT) is highly disorganized and often feels like a club that everyone else is not a part of. - Pay is inadequate and pay ranges are completely inaccurate. - Benefits are OK, but just basic health care. - Opportunities to create real impact are stifled by Leadership's inability to make decisions. - Such high turn over it's hard to remember people's names and job titles.
