Not Worth The Headache

Pros

Getting to start from booking a client to being there on one of the biggest days of their lives and developing a personal connection with couples is the highlight of any wedding industry job, as it was while I was employed with Walters Wedding Estates. That moment when you fluff the brides train as she walks down the aisle with her father to the groom, chills.

Cons

The workload given to any employee hired by this company is unimaginable. On top of the heavy workload, this comes with inadequate training and more of a learn as you go scenario, which is not ideal to anyone. If it is, I recommend applying and starting your career with them. The lack of guidance and penny pinching makes you feel undervalued and overworked. They have really high expectations without the tools to be successful. I believe in a working community if you taker care of your employees, your employees will take care of you. I have witnessed the complete opposite of this mentality when working for this company. Many people lost their jobs, were forced to wear many hats, and asked to do more and more with less. They claim to hire from within, along with promote from within. But what they don't tell you is that you can only get so far and when you want to stay with the company but would like a new direction, there is nothing they can do for you.

No work life balance, no pay, terribly corporate culture

Pros

You will have amazing problem-solving skills because you will be responsible for everything with little help from corporate. They will completely abandon you when you need help or support with a bride or family member.

Cons

Everything about this job. The pay is ridiculous for the amount of work that they expect you to put in. They are expecting you to work from home, on your off days, late into the evening, and at the drop of a hat for NO EXTRA INCOME. No overtime, no time and a half for holidays, nothing. They keep piling on the work with no recognition to their workers. They don't check in on venue teams either, they have no concern for their employees mental health. When you express any concern, you are scolded for not being a team player. I was working 60+ hours a week and was unable to pay bills from month to month. Probably the worst job I've ever had. They pray on college graduates and make it seem like the job is going to be an amazing opportunity, but they fail to live up to the expectations.

We're sorry to hear that your experience has not been positive. Our management team is always willing to hear suggestions, ideas, and feedback from their team members to make it a better place to work. Our pay rates are competitive within in the industry and are reviewed annually. Extra effort made by team members is definitely noticed by others, including other team members, guests, and leadership. Our employee recognition program ensures that those who go above and beyond are recognized for their hard work and efforts.

Pros

I think working in this industry anyone can tell you the pros are being there for a couples big day. Working around beautiful things and with people who have a common passion is wonderful. The culture was also once great.

Cons

A small company (larger in this particular business) with ever changing structures, systems and turnover. Small companies do have change, especially when they are working out kinks and trying to keep processes streamlined. However, there comes a time where too much change is concerning. The past six months have been a whole company restructure, implementation of a new CRM system, incorporating a whole other company under Walter's wedding estates and acquiring wedding venues left and right. These things were done with very little comprehensive training, terrible communication from executive members and change in compensation (an alarming amount of employees losing their job or moved to hourly vs. salary) and resulted in a huge turnover. It was simply too much to handle at once. The COO's outlook on trying to fix problems and implement new ideas is taking that idea, without much think-through and word vommitting it on those who need to implement it and putting a short deadline on it. The vision in the company is in the right place but the leaders are not strategically placed nor is most of the exec team on the same page with… really anything. Also, the lack of diversity in the company is alarming.
