Influential businessman and philanthropist Joseph A. Hardy III, died on Saturday, January 7th, which was also his 100th birthday. Hardy, the founder of 84 Lumber and Nemacolin resort, was known for his vast success, growing 84 Lumber into a billion-dollar company. From the beginning to the end of his life, Joseph A. Hardy III was truly a man who did it all. A son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, student, graduate, pilot, gemologist, salesman, entrepreneur, commissioner, philanthropist, and super-human that embodied his favorite phrase and philosophy “nothing is impossible.” In true Hardy fashion, Joe passed away with his cigar in his hand, surrounded by his loving family, singing Broadway show tunes to comfort him at his home in Farmington, PA. He was 100 years young.

Today, on Good Morning America, 84 Lumber presented a special surprise to the city of Mayfield, Kentucky. To assist with relief from the devastating tornado that hit the town on December 10, the company donated $100,000, plus an additional $25,000 in building materials. “After witnessing the level of destruction in Mayfield, we knew we could make a difference and help put roofs back over the heads of people who desperately need assistance,” said 84 Lumber President Maggie Hardy Knox. “Our Kentucky area stores moved quickly to get supplies down to Mayfield for the surprise, and they plan to continue helping the town in the coming months as they rebuild.” The $100,000 donation will directly assist the town of Mayfield, and the $25,000 in materials will go to homeowners in the area who need assistance rebuilding. This donation comes at the end of 2021 during 84 Lumber’s 24 Days of Giving holiday campaign. Throughout the year, the company donated millions in materials and monetary donations to communities in need. Check out the full GMA segment at https://gma.abc/3edUGpr

For the sixth year in a row, 84 Lumber is raising awareness for breast cancer and honoring people who have been impacted by the disease throughout October. The company surprised four women undergoing breast cancer treatment with $25,000 each on ABC’s The View. The episode and donations were also in celebration of The View’s 25th Anniversary. “We understand that breast cancer can have lifelong effects, which is why we wanted to donate to these four wonderful women,” said 84 Lumber President Maggie Hardy Knox. “We are thankful that The View helped us pull off this exciting surprise, and we hope it has a positive impact on their families.” The $100,000 donation was split between two mother-daughter duos who each took home $25,000. The surprise was part of 84 Lumber’s initiatives for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition to the donation on The View, the company turned its iconic 84 logos pink on all digital platforms, donated $25,000 to breast cancer research, partnered with a local coffee truck owner to create special pink drinks and more.
