Our Brooklyn high school basketball team had a very cool opportunity—they ventured to the NIKE HEADQUARTERS to compete against other elite teams from the New York area. Student-athletes from AF Brooklyn High, AF East Brooklyn High, and AF University Prep (united as the Brooklyn Panthers) persevered to end the tournament undefeated. AND—they won a sponsorship! We see you, Brooklyn Panthers!

Right before break, we learned about many of our scholars who’ve been accepted early to their dream colleges. Today, we will celebrate one supersized moment: 45 new AF alumni who’ve graduated college in May or August of 2019! What a beautiful reminder of our scholars’ hard work and persistence after they graduate from our high schools.
We held our first-annual AF Brooklyn middle school basketball tournament over the weekend! Teams from AF Apollo, AF Brownsville, AF Bushwick, AF Crown Heights, AF East New York, AF Endeavor, and AF Voyager faced off for an intense (and fun!) day of games. There was so much school spirit on display, and I’m proud of our kids for showing great sportsmanship. Let’s give a big cheer for the tournament winners—AF Endeavor Middle, and coaches John Pettaway and Trevon Hamlet!
Happy New Year! As we move into a new decade, we have to act on our values. Our friends at Amistad Academy Elementary demonstrated this beautifully when they collected 1,108 pounds of food for the Connecticut Food Bank! Give a round of applause for three of our first graders who brought in 150 cans!
AF East New York Middle School has a new student council! Let's send these young leaders our best wishes: they're sure to accomplish great things this year!
