Several unsuspecting shoppers at Albertsons in Boise, ID were recently in for a shock when they ventured into the dairy section to buy milk. With the help of Albertsons’ store crew, got milk? built a gym – yes, a gym – behind the milk fridge. What’s more, in the conspicuously sleek fitness center were best-in-class athletes 2021 Olympian Ariel Torres and three-time Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong Savola! This month we’re celebrating Pride and showcasing the stories, perspectives and dreams of some of our amazing LGBTQ+ associates. To kick things off, Chris Colombana, VP, Merchandising Systems and Integration at Albertsons Companies, shares his hope for the future. “I would like to see Americans reset their perspectives and remember how much more we have in common than that which divides us. I hope that LGBTQ+ equality becomes a reality and something that no longer has to be fought for, but is commonplace. That we meet a day where we look back on a past where Americans tried to stifle the voices and limit the rights of their brothers and sisters and it seems abstract and absurd.”
Albertsons Companies is committed to fighting food insecurity and raised a record $260 million in food and monetary donations to aid hunger relief in local communities in 2020. We're grateful to our partners, customers and community members for coming together to help our neighbors in need. #NourishingNeighbors

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of cultures and people representing a variety of Asian communities. Shanti Vellanki, Sr. Director of Engineering, was born into a Hindu priest family in rural India and credits his parents for teaching him to value his own religion and culture and be open to others as well. “While many of us are generalized as Asians, we are all very different, not just in terms of geographically separated countries or territories, but in terms of the diverse cultures with different values and beliefs. What’s a more appropriate time than now to understand some of those cultures and celebrate what makes us different? It’s also an opportunity to appreciate the Asian immigrants that came to the U.S. hundreds of years ago, for their contributions, sacrifices and influences on present-day America.”
Albertsons Companies is honored to receive the 2021 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award from The Shelby Report . This program recognizes retailers that are working to advance and uphold diversity, equity and inclusion in the U.S. grocery industry.
