To mark Learning at Work Week, we’re taking a closer look at Fort Dunlop: our state-of-the-art training academy. Equipped with everything from a mock store, to a Google-themed apartment, to gaming and interactive zones, it’s where we create capable, committed colleagues. Here, everyone’s empowered. Due to Covid safety precautions recent Fort Dunlop training academy sessions have been held virtually, but we're looking forward to opening its doors to our colleagues as soon as it's safe to do so.
This month, we've launched Spring into Action – a five-week programme of fun wellbeing challenges for our fantastic team. Each week, there’s a different activity, from exercise to meditation, with a prize draw for those who complete all the challenges. It’s all about making sure our capable, committed colleagues are happy and healthy, as we begin Mental Health Awareness Week.
Thanks to Team DC's resilience, commitment and hard work, our business has adapted and succeeded at a hugely challenging time. We're recognising this fantastic effort by bringing in a pay rise for 12,000 hourly paid colleagues. Due to come into effect later on this year, the increase will bring our hourly pay – which has always been above National Living Wage – in line with rates suggested by the Real Living Wage Foundation. A big thank you to Team DC. You deserve every penny.

Autism Awareness Month kicks off today, and we’ll be learning more about autism and how best to support autistic people. We’re determined that everyone is included and represented in our business – it’s how we win together. To make sure that that’s the case, we’ve created a new partnership with the Business Disability Forum (BDF). This partnership will give us access to resources, tools, expert advice and best practice learnings from other companies. It will also play an important part in helping us build more capability in neurodiversity. One of the first events will be a free webinar to discuss neurodiversity in the workplace. Hosted by the BDF, it will take place at midday today and is open to all colleagues.
In Leicester, our rapid Covid testing programme is giving colleagues peace of mind. Emily, from the Fosse Park store, reflects on how straightforward the testing was: "Absolutely fantastic what the company is doing for us all to keep us safe! At Fosse Park, our staff in store were tested and it was extremely quick and easy! All 32 colleagues were tested, and we got the results back in no time at all (thankfully all negative). Great work from everyone involved, including the nurses." Now colleagues can get back to helping customers via drive-thru/walk-up order and collect, knowing everyone is well.
