In Leicester, our rapid Covid testing programme is giving colleagues peace of mind. Emily, from the Fosse Park store, reflects on how straightforward the testing was: "Absolutely fantastic what the company is doing for us all to keep us safe! At Fosse Park, our staff in store were tested and it was extremely quick and easy! All 32 colleagues were tested, and we got the results back in no time at all (thankfully all negative). Great work from everyone involved, including the nurses." Now colleagues can get back to helping customers via drive-thru/walk-up order and collect, knowing everyone is well. A third of UK families don’t have the tech for their children to follow lessons online. That’s why we’ve recently donated 1,000 nearly new laptops to the Computers For Kids campaign. Alex Baldock, our Chief Executive, reflects: ‘If all kids are to have big opportunities in life, all must have access to technology. That has never been more important than now, in lockdown. At Dixons Carphone, we are determined to help everyone make the most of amazing technology, which is why we’re proud to back the Mail’s brilliant Computers for Kids campaign.’ We’re also giving £1million to support disadvantaged pupils, parents and teachers through the Digital Poverty Alliance, an initiative we’ve co-founded.
On Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, Lorna, a White Goods Engineer, explains why she loves the job and what got her started. "Some people say girls can't do engineering or work in a man's world. Well, I've proved it's possible." "Being a White Goods Engineer is a very interesting job: not only do you solve the impossible; you get great satisfaction from being a 'woman' who solved it. I'm encouraged by my line manager to develop my knowledge and always included on any new training to help me build on my existing skills." "Engineering runs in the family and I've always been interested in the field. My grandad was a WO1 in Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (trainer for all the engineers in the army) and my dad is a Dental Engineer. They were both very supportive and keen for me to follow my career goals." We've rolled out rapid Covid-19 testing for our colleagues across our supply chain, retail and contact centre sites in high risk areas. At Dixons Carphone, nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues, customers and communities, and this initiative builds on the robust safety measures we already have in place across all our sites. This investment forms part of our strategy to keep millions of people connected during this vital lockdown and do our bit to help tackle the spread of the virus.

We’re incredibly proud of the way Team DC has come through for customers over the last 12 months. And we’re dedicated to looking after our capable and committed colleagues as the pandemic continues. With that in mind, we’ve invested £150k in Mental Health First Aid training as we move into 2021. It’s all about keeping everyone safe, happy and well. #WeWinTogether
We’re all about helping everyone enjoy amazing technology – and that goes for our colleagues too. To help children who don’t have their own computer, parents across our business can now borrow a Chromebook on loan. The computers will be display models from a local store. This way, home schooling is less of a struggle and kids can continue to learn.
Looking after our colleagues is more important than ever during difficult times. And it’s particularly important today – Blue Monday. That’s why we’ve made sure that everyone in our business has a free, six-month subscription to Calm: the UK’s number one app for lowering stress and boosting wellbeing.
