We love helping colleagues to develop their careers. But progression’s not limited to a particular field or department – you can also move across the business. Take Rebecca, who was originally a Business Advisor in our Retail team. Now she’s training to be a Supply Chain First Line Manager. And the transition went like clockwork: "Moving to Supply Chain at the Newark Campus has been such an exciting time in my career; there are so many opportunities and it’s great to be a part of the ever-growing Campus. The induction ensured I was fully informed and settled in, and the managers have all been so helpful and welcoming. I've really developed my management skills, but the biggest thing I’ve learnt is that there's always someone willing to help. To anyone considering joining us, I’d say go for it! Bring new ideas, innovate and be the future of Dixons Carphone." Want the scope to develop in countless different directions? Join us – see our latest roles: https://careers.dixonscarphone.com
In less than 24 hours, it will be 2021, and we're looking forward to the year ahead! Happy New Year to you all.
This year, our world was turned upside down by Covid-19, along with everyone else’s. But as Melissa, our Group Director for Talent, Leadership & Learning, has spotted, 2020 has actually been an opportunity to change and look to the future. “We found that the mindset, behaviours and ways of working that emerged in response to the crisis were the very ones that were needed to accelerate our business transformation and increase colleague engagement,” she says. Citing closer teamwork, which resulted in innovations such as ShopLive, Melissa believes there’s been positive progress: “We committed to harnessing collaborative, agile and more flexible ways of working, helping them endure into the future, and identifying ways of working that no longer served us.”

During Black Friday 2019, we received an average of 138 orders a minute. What’s more, if you stacked up all 55”+ TVs we sold, they would be taller than 187 Shard towers. This Black Friday Team DC are expected to travel over half a million kilometers (514km) to deliver to 115,000 customers and spend over 30,000 hours installing tech in their homes. Great work team.
We were delighted that our Apprenticeships were recently named the best for mentoring by Retail Week. We work hard to give our early talent the support they need to maximise their skills and grow an amazing career in our business. What’s more, mentoring is as rewarding for mentors as it is for mentees. With all parties enjoying the experience, we can build a team of committed, capable colleagues.
We’ve completed the first phase of our North West External Regional Distribution Centre project – and our new strategic hub is operational! We’ve created a 375,000sqft site that will play a fundamental part in a simpler, more effective delivery network. Our new Distribution Centre is welcoming talented colleagues from Manchester and Leeds – so customers in the North West get to work with the same brilliant team. “Unlocking the potential of our North West Customer Service Centre was imperative to providing our colleagues with the space and first-class facilities they needed to deliver more for our customers in this region. With over 160 new and existing colleagues and 120 franchisee colleagues now on site, we expect to see 50% more customers being served every week across our peak trading period.” says Jon Bridle, Transformation Director Supply Chain & Operations. The wellbeing of our team is a top priority, now and in the future. We have safety measures in place across the North West External Regional Distribution Centre to give our team peace of mind and maximise safety.
You might see your journey with us as a Driver. We see potential managers, admin experts, tech specialists, installation engineers and more. What direction will your DC career take?
Since the coronavirus pandemic began, it’s become more important than ever to support our colleagues. Feedback like this from Mariya tells us that our efforts have made a difference. Many thanks to Mariya for sharing her thoughts and meeting some difficult challenges. “My manager checked in on me throughout the lockdown and ensured that I was aware of any updates regarding being called back. In store, there are a number of safety measures in place. The company response has been brilliant.”
