“As someone who enjoys working with others in person, I was a bit apprehensive about remote work at first. However, I’ve come to embrace the work-life balance and flexibility it grants over my schedule. I work outdoors when the weather is beautiful and working where I feel inspired has allowed me to feel more creative in my role and my personal life. I’m grateful that Etsy makes working remotely seamless. I have so many tools and resources for collaboration that it often feels like I’m working alongside my peers, even in a virtual setting. It also makes the moments to meet in person that much more meaningful.” Meet Carissa Malvai, Senior Specialist on the Payments Product Insights team and one of our remote employees here at Etsy. We are proud to offer three different work modes - remote, office-based, and flex - to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Thank you Carissa for sharing how this decision has benefited your work-life balance and has enabled you to create more meaningful connections. We’re excited to share our new and improved LinkedIn Life page! At Etsy, we take pride in providing candidates with valuable resources – ones that include genuine insights into the Etsy experience, help folks to interview more effectively, and to determine whether we’re the right next career choice for them. This resource does just that! Each page delves into different aspects of Etsy’s company culture including how our environmental goals influence business strategies, our flexible work modes, our inclusive hiring practices, and our DEI commitments. Each year, Etsy’s Design org hosts an employee-led conference encouraging meaningful discussions, innovation, and connections. And this year’s hybrid event was just that and MORE! “Building Vibrant Design Communities with your superpowers” was the 2022 theme and employees were encouraged to dig deeper within themselves to explore the superpowers they use to navigate their work. Emerging designers from outside of Etsy and employees alike shared and learned design tips influenced by their newfound superpowers, and all attendees left this two-day event inspired to positively impact the wider design community with their learnings. We appreciate those who planned and moderated, produced, capturing behind the scenes clips, and everyone else who helped to put together this virtual experience for our remote and on-site employees. Special thanks to our speakers as well! Looking forward to next year.
In light of Rosh Hashanah, colleagues and friends of Jetsy, our network of Etsy employees who are members of the Jewish community and their allies, gathered to celebrate the Jewish New Year at our Brooklyn HQ! We’re still raving about the delicious bites from GERTIE Restaurant and this year's babka tasting — an annual event where we bring in sweet braided bread from local shops and employees vote on their favorites. In addition to the festivities, folks took part in writing their resolutions along with creating crafty cards to give back to our community. Shana Tovah to all those who celebrated!
This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we invite you to join us in celebrating and honoring the richness of Indigenous culture. Here at Etsy, we’ve partnered with Nest to onboard over 10 Indigenous makers from different native or indigenous groups as an opportunity for them to tell their own stories, highlight their own history and share the impact they've made through their craft. Supporting underrepresented communities is rooted in our Etsy culture— internally and externally— and this is one way we continue our commitment to economic empowerment. Join us in celebrating the Indigenous Artisans Collective by exploring the crafted designs inspired by the history and traditions of their ancestors.
Product and ML teams often have several A/B tests they want to run, but online traffic is a limited resource. So, what if you could learn from user behavior in a faster and smarter way? In this Code as Craft post, Senior Data Scientist David (Ami) Wulf shares how and when interleaving – a lesser-known experimental technique – helps us detect the impact of certain changes with less than 10% of the traffic needed for an A/B test.

How many times have you planned out your work, thought through various edge cases, and still forgotten a fundamental task? It’s experiences like these – plus inspiration from Atul Gawande’s The Checklist Manifesto – that inspired Senior Full-stack Engineer Theresa (Meyer) Eades to create a checklist of her own: her product engineering Checklist Manifetsy! If using something as simple a checklist can decrease surgery failures by a third, what could they do for product experiments? Read through Theresa’s Code as Craft blog post to learn how this tool we all have access to has helped to increase the success of product experiments here at Etsy.
“What Latinx Heritage Month means to me is orgullo (pride). I’m the first generation graduate in my family and the daughter of a single immigrant mother. Growing up, I never saw many Latinx women in leadership roles, let alone within Trust & Safety. Today, I’m proud to be in rooms where decisions are discussed and made, and I hope to amplify additional Latinx voices as I progress in my career. As for celebrations, I hone in a little more than usual on my Mexican culture and history throughout the month. I especially like seeing society amplifying the community's voices, especially as more representation is being seen across industries. This is something little Bri would not have believed.” Brianna V. shares. Meet Bri Vasquez, Operations Manager on the Content Moderation team. We’re proud to celebrate Latinx Heritage month with her and our Hispanic & Latinx Network (HLN) employee resource group by highlighting the stories of HLN leaders.
The most impactful product enhancements are designed with user needs in mind. What makes this so inspiring for product professionals? It’s a unique method to help others.
