NIKE, Inc. is encouraging its employees to give back through virtual volunteering. Today we check in with Jennie Docherty, a Nike sales rep based in NYC who has been a part of the Nike family since childhood, as her father has worked for Nike for more than 35 years. Docherty is virtually volunteering for Career Village, a technology nonprofit that uses online volunteering to crowdsource career advice for young people, with a focus on those in low-income communities. When asked what sparked this passion for coaching and mentoring, Docherty said: “Both my dad and mom coached a lot of me and my siblings’ teams growing up — my mom was a college track and cross-country coach before going on to teach. They are both big mentors in my life, for sure. When you’re young, you need someone who believes in you and wants to see you succeed. I want to pass on that gift.” We’re proud of Jennie and all our teammates for giving back. Learn more about all our COVID-19 response efforts at purpose.nike.com.
In honor of Military Appreciation Month, The Nike Military Veteran’s & Friends Network hosted Dan Nevins, a 15-year military veteran, professional speaker and double amputee, to share an inspirational message of resilience during a virtual yoga training session for Nike teammates. Dan shared three practices to create everyday resiliency, something we can all learn from at this time: 1. Stay connected (virtually) to at least one person every day 2. Move your body for at least 30 minutes every day. 3. Develop a gratitude practice, because it’s impossible to experience anxiety and fear when you’re actively practicing gratitude. In this week’s Home Office Dispatch, we talk to Courtney Dayao, a senior color designer who shares an honest account of WFH — not including the squirrels outside her window. When asked about tips for physical and mental wellbeing and creative inspiration, she had this to say: “[For wellbeing], definitely a daily morning workout to clear my head: either running, yoga, biking or some strength training. [For creative inspiration,] I like the music broadcaster Boiler Room and livestream DJ sets.”

“My biggest lessons in life haven’t come from the successes but from the really hard times. They make you go deeper, and that makes you stronger.” Nike’s VP of Sourcing Amanda Tucker is no stranger to challenges. As an Ironman competitor, she actively pursued them. After being diagnosed with Stage 3B melanoma, she faced down the disease with determination and in-hospital workouts. She channels these learnings into creative, real-time sourcing solutions, injected with spinning breaks at home.
