When Joel Perez, Assistant Product Line Manager for Headwear, heard about the cancellations of spring marathons, he decided to take action— he ran his own. Joel hit the streets of Portland last week on Marathon Monday, running 26.2 socially distanced miles solo to raise funds for the Oregon Food Bank. His efforts paid off — and then some. To date, he's helped raise more than $3,700 in donations, which will get a bump from Nike’s two-to-one employee giving match to support COVID-19 response efforts. We're constantly inspired by the ways our teammates are both giving back and making sport a daily habit. #JustDoIt
Today Nike is being recognized in Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards as a finalist in three categories: World Changing Company of the Year; Spaces, Places, and Cities for “The Court” facility on our European Logistic Campus; and Art and Design for Circularity: Guiding the Future of Design. We’re proud of the work we achieved and are excited to continue driving change.
As Nike joined the race to enable frontline healthcare workers with PPE, we hear from Julia Brim-Edwards, Senior Director, Nike Government and Public Affairs on her team’s involvement: “We have these weekly calls, bringing together the teams working on this. And everyone is there because they believe that we have a unique ability to do something – to help our communities and support the front-line workers who are protecting our families, our parents, our grandparents, our neighbors.”

Earth Day, long credited with launching the modern environmental movement, is more than an annual observance for Nike. We’re building on decades of advancing sustainability and setting bold goals for the future. From innovating ways to recycle shoes nearly 30 years ago to recent commitments that address climate change, Nike has long been committed to helping protect the planet to create a better future for sport. This Earth Day, Nike is launching a sustainable materials program on Nike.com, that includes a number of new features that will make it easier to search, shop and learn about the sustainable materials used in our products. Helping connect people to the materials that make up our product, these features aim to foster purposeful engagement with sustainable design. The digital pilot program is another step in our journey – there is no finish line.
