"With my boys, I try to teach them that it's a tough world out there. You need to know who you are and where you come from at a young age. I didn't know who I was until I was in my late 20s and I am still finding out more everyday. I want them to know who they are and that they can be successful at anything they want. Owning your own character and identity is so important." Shea Scott, PHMG Business Development Manager. The Association for the Study of African American History dedicated this year's theme to The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity. In celebration of this theme, our staff took part in a fireside chat - sharing their stories and openly discussing the importance of identity. Speaking out about experiences past and present is a way to embrace your authentic self, along with the legacy of African American families.
