Join us in recognizing the incredible work of our certified nurses and the difference they make."
As the year comes to a close, we’re reminded of the many ways you touch lives—quietly, consistently, and with extraordinary compassion. Your work reaches far beyond the walls of clinics and hospitals, rippling through our communities as you calm anxious families, restore dignity in difficult moments, and offer hope when it’s needed most. This season, we celebrate not only our dedicated team members, but all of the healthcare heroes across southeast Virginia. Your impact is felt every day, in ways that words can only begin to capture. May this holiday season bring you well-deserved rest, joy, and the same warmth and care you so generously extend to others throughout the year. Thank you for making our community healthier, kinder, and stronger. With deep gratitude, Riverside Health

Riverside Celebrates Nurses Week! Our Chief Nurse Executive, Frankye Myers, says, "I want to take a moment to express heartfelt gratitude — as a fellow nurse who understands the commitment, heart and purpose behind everything our nurses do. "This year’s theme from the American Organization for Nursing Leadership is Care. Lead. Inspire. — Repeat. "It beautifully reflects the spirit of nursing, but also the power of partnership that exists across our health system. While we take this week to spotlight the remarkable work of our nurses, this celebration is also about the teams, departments and individuals who stand alongside them — supporting, collaborating and advancing care for every person who comes through our doors." Happy Nurses Week!
As Riverside Smithfield Hospital (RSH) moves toward a January 2026 opening, a six-member Staffing Workgroup has projected a need for 190 full-time equivalent (FTE) team members. FTE incorporates the hours of both full-time and part-time staff. “Our plan was crafted with our patients at the center of every decision, with the goal of meeting the needs of our patients on day one,” said Jessica Macalino, RSH President and a Staffing Workgroup member. “Our team then will grow as the needs grow.” The FTE total covers all departments: Inpatient Services; Emergency Services and Protections; Surgical Services; Quality, Lab and Pharmacy; Imaging and Therapy Services; Facilities, Environmental Services and Nutrition Services; and Administration.
