At SSOE, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is a core value and part of our daily work. As part of this commitment, we’ve partnered with CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, the largest business-led coalition focused on DEI with more than 2,500 CEOs of the world’s leading organizations who have pledged to take action to cultivate more inclusive workplaces. One of the most effective ways to meet our shared goals is through the professional development of diverse leaders, and CEO Action has a mentoring initiative designed to meet this important need. Our own Betsy Hurner and Faith Perales have been accepted into the program’s fifth cohort, covering topics like networking, decision making, strategy, and change management across six months.
30 years in the making: SSOE is providing architectural, interior design, and comprehensive engineering services on Wood County Health Department’s $2.7 million expansion and renovation. The project aims to create a warm, inviting environment while maximizing space efficiency through durable and sustainable materials. This substantial improvement, the first since the building’s original construction three decades ago, will modernize the facility, improve functionality, foster collaboration, and enhance operations. Moving the nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) on-site will also save the county approximately $2,000 a month.
People on the move! SSOE’s Carey Russell is featured on Portland Business Journal's website for her recent promotion to Strategic Business Unit Manager of our Basebuild Operations. Carey, a professional engineer, joined our firm in 2015 as a project manager. This promotion comes just 10 months after her promotion to Principal Division Manager of Advanced Technology. #SSOEportland
On Friday, we hosted a special kit build at our world headquarters in Toledo—in partnership with the Art Tatum Zone. These kits, built for the students at Toledo Public Schools’ Pickett Academy that’s just minutes from our office, included items around the theme of Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Our team of employees put together a total of 75 dream kits (plus 75 hygiene bags for the nurse’s office). #MLKDay #SSOEcares
Toledo was recently named “Hottest Place to Live” according to Barron's, a premier investing publication, due to the affordability and economy anchored around sectors expected to grow in 2024. SSOE has proudly called the Glass City home for 75 years and has thrived amid Toledo’s rising popularity. After our best year in company history, we're excited about the forecasted steady growth ahead. #chooseSSOE #SSOEcelebrates75
SSOE’s José Carlos Arnal de la Peña was highlighted in this University of Toledo showcase. Within, he shares his experience as an international civil engineering student turned SSOE co-op. Earlier this month, he returned to our headquarters—but this time, as a full-time member of our Automotive and Manufacturing Facilities business unit’s structural team. At SSOE, attainment of professional licensures and certifications is strongly encouraged. In fact, we cover the expense of preparation classes and exam fees as well as provide employees paid time off to take the exam. As an added incentive, once an employee has passed an exam, they're also awarded a recognition bonus. #chooseSSOE
A star-studded event! Our León office recently hosted a Posada, a traditional holiday celebration in Mexico. Employees came together at the beautiful Skada Jardin venue for a memorable night of dinner, dancing, and customary festivities. In the spirit of Posada, employees also welcomed visitors of their community—including President Catherine Myers and Chief Operating Officer Matt Oberts—to embrace the joy of the season. The event concluded with an exciting raffle, an enchanting magic show, and (the star of the show) the 7-point Piñata. #SSOEmexico #chooseSSOE
SSOE was one of several architectural firms across North and Central Alabama that participated in a charity event to benefit The Lovelady Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Employee Amy Cope brought her holiday spirit and design expertise to ensure every room with a child had a decorated tree. #SSOEcares #SSOEsoutheast
