Getting closer to completion! Construction for the new Michigan Statewide Carpenters and Millwrights Joint Apprenticeship and Training Center in Detroit is on schedule and moving along nicely. SSOE was selected to provide architectural and engineering design services for the $30 million, 147,000 SF workforce development facility that will be used to provide instruction to local carpenter and millwright apprentices and journeymen. Designed to accommodate future growth, the building combines three locations into one, which allows for a 30 – 40% increase in training capacity annually. #WorkforceDevelopment
SSOE’s Greg Verhoff—an expert in Lean project management and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) who works in our Lima, Ohio office—will be speaking at the Lean Construction Institute's Ohio Valley Community of Practice Student Forum as part of the University of Cincinnati's Construction Management Program. The virtual event, which takes place next Thursday, April 15th, is designed to supplement students’ theoretical knowledge of Lean principles and techniques with practical insights from the field.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting some of the trailblazers right here at SSOE Group who’ve impacted the AEC industry where women have historically been underrepresented. Last but certainly not least is Chief Operating Officer Catherine Myers of our Portland, Oregon office. A mechanical engineer by education, Cathy joined SSOE in 2017 as a Strategic Business Unit Manager. With more than 30 years of experience in semiconductor facility design and industrial design operations, she quickly moved up the ranks to become our first female chief operating officer and chair of our board of directors. In 2020, Cathy was honored with the Daily Journal of Commerce Women of Vision award for her leadership, mentoring efforts, community involvement, and promotion of industry diversity. #WomensHistoryMonth
