Hammers + Heart: On Thursday, volunteers from SSOE Group teamed up with Toledo-area businesses at Fifth Third Field to help build a total of 24 playhouses, each of which were donated to a child in Northwest Ohio. The SSOE-sponsored event, known as the Playhouse Project Blitz Build, is Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity’s biggest fundraiser of the year and helps the nonprofit organization provide affordable housing to families in need. This year, our team designed, constructed, and decorated a playhouse for four-year-old Adilynn, who recently became a big sister to baby Olivia and loves the color purple, unicorns, and playing mommy to her baby dolls. #SSOEcares

SSOE recently partnered with Walbridge and Aristeo Construction to deliver Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Jeep Grand Cherokee plant on Mack Avenue in Detroit—the Motor City’s first new assembly plant in 30 years. This Automotive News article details the transformation of two decades-old engine plants into an assembly plant for full-size SUVs, a $1.6 billion investment that will create 3,800+ new jobs (and no small feat). Despite construction being halted for six weeks because of the coronavirus pandemic, the complex nature of the project, and a shortage of skilled trade workers, the project is nearing completion after just 16 months—the fastest it’s been done in North America thanks to speed of design, precision planning, and accelerated construction.

Expanding care in the Southeast: The Children's of Alabama Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit Expansion—a project for which we provided lighting, power, data, fire alarm, and auxiliary services—was recently named a winner of the Birmingham Business Journal’s 2020 Building Birmingham Awards, which recognizes excellence in construction, architecture, and engineering in the Magic City. We worked in close coordination with our partners Poole & Company Architects and Doster Construction Company on this 10,000 SF adaptive reuse healthcare project that will provide a safe, open, and flexible space for young children with specific behavioral issues.
