In light of the COVID-19 crisis, Area Development asked SSOE Group’s Michael Vetter—a senior project manager who supports food and consumer product clients from our St. Paul, Minnesota location—about what companies are doing to keep their operations up and running and their employees safe.
Vote for us! Two of our BIM / tech gurus have submitted to Autodesk University for consideration at this year's digital conference in November. Autodesk uses a voting system to determine who is selected to present and we want YOUR vote. Project VDC / BIM Specialist Justin Lipsey's proposal, titled “The AEC Product Owner – A New Role Bred Out of the Necessity for Change,” explores how establishing the product owner role at your firm can help bridge the gap between new software and legacy systems. Senior VDC Technical Leader Mark LaBell, who has presented at AU seven times and received an honorable mention last year, submitted a proposal titled “ReCap to the Max Part Deux! Clouds in BIM 360 and Advanced Renovation Workflows.” You're not limited to a single vote—vote for as many topics as you like. Voting concludes on July 13th, so don’t delay!

Staying cool: Our client, an international pretzel maker, recently selected SSOE’s food experts to add a new line for dough processing at their Midwest plant to increase U.S. production and distribution. The project included the installation of two freezers—a spiral freezer for pre-packaging flash freezing and an 8,500 SF -10° pre-shipment storage freezer, which SSOE also designed. In addition, our team designed the refrigeration systems for both, as well as new primary electrical service to the plant and installation of bulk material silos.
SSOE recently learned that the American Red Cross has begun testing all blood, platelet, and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. That means those donating blood through the Red Cross can now get critical insight into whether or not they have been exposed to the virus through this FDA-approved test that’s been in high demand—another good reason to donate blood during this time. To support the efforts of the Red Cross, whom we’ve partnered with through many natural disasters over the years, we will be making a considerable donation to help them cover the costs of this COVID-19 antibody testing. #COVID19 #InThisTogether
Julie Dolan, Principal Account Executive at SSOE and a core team member of the LCI Ohio Valley Community of Practice, will join Fred Miller of Field Aerospace tomorrow, June 26th, to virtually present on the 8 types of waste and how to see them so you can improve your processes and create value. We've proudly been a corporate member of the Lean Construction Institute since 2015.
A step in the right direction: Long before the recent Supreme Court ruling, SSOE had policies in place to assure fair and equal treatment to all employees regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Our policies aren’t the result of a mandate, but we stand in full support of the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of LGBTQ rights to ensure workers everywhere have these same rights. As a company whose success is rooted in the unique solutions we provide, diversity of thought is a key strategic advantage. To put forward something different requires a variance in life experiences that frequently emerges from contrasting backgrounds. We look forward to the day when diversity isn’t required but embraced as the valuable asset that it is.
