Think pink for Breast Cancer! It’s not just our customers who we want to enjoy Life Unlimited. We host initiatives across the globe that give our colleagues the chance to learn more about taking care of their own health and wellbeing. To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, our teams worldwide have dug out their fuschia outfits and taken part in a range of activities, including in-office medical check-ups and talks from doctors on cancer prevention.
Building a better world, brick by brick… 🏠 With 8 hours of paid volunteering leave, our teams have the chance to make a difference in the communities where they live and work. Supporting Habitat For Humanity, a charity that constructs affordable homes to tackle housing poverty, a team of eager builders from our Memphis site donned their hard hats in the sunshine. They installed boards and windows to the structures and removed debris from the site, helping to make the new homeowner’s dream come true. Our volunteer construction crew are members of our UNITY Employee Inclusion Group, which works to improve cultural awareness and understanding across our workforce.
An exceptional award for an exceptional team. We’re thrilled that Smith+Nephew has received a Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award for 2024. Gallup perform rigorous analysis of company cultures across the globe to recognize the best of the best in employee engagement. We’ll continue driving new initiatives to support wellbeing and ensuring all employees can be themselves at work.
"It had been decades since the last time that I sat in a classroom, but now have the career of my dreams.” We’re proud to empower our teams with new skills and potential. Our ‘Pathway to Machinist’ program in Memphis provides manufacturing employees with the opportunity to attend a local college and study for their machining certification, taking the next step in their careers.
Function is paramount in medical devices, but that doesn’t mean we can’t deliver it with style. We had a fantastic evening celebrating RENASYS EDGE winning the Red Dot Award for Design Concept 2024 in the Medical Devices and Technology Category. The Red Dot awards commend new innovations and groundbreaking designs. EDGE’s patient-centric concept was recognized for its combination of a discreet, comfortable design, enabling patients to continue with their daily lives while receiving prescribed negative pressure wound therapy. Congratulations to all the winners!
We hope your day is as “pak-ed with choi” as ours! Our team at Smith+Nephew Penang have come together to create an ‘Oasis Garden’ at the site. Constructed and maintained by the team, with the guidance of the Penang Agriculture Department, they have just harvested their first crop of Pak Choi!
Why pursue a career in Manufacturing or Engineering? We were discussing exactly that with students at the Women in Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) event in Hull (UK). Our STEM team, a group of Smith+Nephew volunteers who work to inspire others to follow a path in STEM, were pleased to meet the innovators and talent of the future. They shared insights to their roles and their academic and professional journeys.
What do 160 high school students, parents and educators from the Memphis area have in common? They all joined us at our Brooks Road site in Memphis to celebrate National Manufacturing Day! Our team were excited to give our guests a tour of the manufacturing facilities and talk to them about the wide variety of career opportunities available within the manufacturing industry.
Improving quality of life sits at the heart of our purpose, Life Unlimited, and one of the ways that we put people first is by championing volunteering in our local communities. Our team in Italy have been using their volunteering hours to support nearby cooperative, Cascina Nibai - part of Cascina Biblioteca Cooperativa, in delivering their social inclusion activities at the farmstead. The team helped out with the childrens’ activities, cleaned the premises and prepared Christmas boxes.
We were pleased to be a supporting sponsor of the AdvaMed MedTech Conference in Toronto. Deepak Nath, our CEO, and John Rogers, our CFO, participated in enlightening conversations on how Smith+Nephew is using data to improve patient outcomes and AI to enhance personalization, automation, and overall quality of patient care. Our Talent team were also on hand to connect with the future innovators of our field.
