Sunstates Security is thrilled to team up with the American Heart Association by participating in the Triangle Heart Walk this year! In light of several recent life-saving efforts by Sunstates Security employees, we’re raising funds to support healthy hearts. We already have over $6,500 raised but are trying to reach our goal of $10,000. Part of the money raised by the event will go towards much-needed funding for research. In 2020-2021 alone, 598 new research projects totaling $135.8 million were backed by the American Heart Association. Additionally, some funds will stay here locally in the Raleigh/Durham area to contribute to community outreaches, such as CPR classes and healthy nutrition programs. We are so proud of Officer Nick Bostic of the Cincinnati region for his heroic actions. The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission presented him with the Carnegie Medal, North America’s highest honor for civilian heroism. One of 15 heroes honored in 2023, Nick risked severe injury and death to save the occupants of a burning house. Nick was driving through a neighborhood in Lafayette, Ind. when he saw a burning home. He entered through the back door, calling to determine if anyone was inside. Upstairs, he found an 18-year-old woman with two 13-year-old girls and a 20-month-old toddler. He led them outside, and they told him a six-year-old child remained in the house. He re-entered the home and searched the upstairs bedrooms. As conditions worsened, Nick considered jumping through a window when he heard cries from downstairs. He found the girl and carried her upstairs, where he punched through a bedroom window and jumped with the child in his arms. Nick suffered from smoke inhalation, first-and second-degree burns, and a severe laceration to his arm but recovered after a three-day hospitalization. Our New York region has been busy doing outstanding things! First, Evan Davendonis was recently promoted to Site Supervisor. Evan has been an excellent employee and was promoted due to his efforts in training new employees, excellent knowledge of the site policies and procedures, awesome attitude to help others, and his responsiveness to work well with the management team. After his promotion, he embraced the opportunity and worked with the security team and management to improve overall security operations. Congratulations to Evan on his promotion and for all his efforts and dedication; we greatly appreciate it! Additionally, Anthony Cartier was also promoted to Site Supervisor. Anthony was promoted due to his commitment to service, great knowledge of site business operations, having an incredible relationship with management, and his leadership skills. Candace Robinson was our previous Site Supervisor and has moved on to an opportunity in a different field, and she will continue to be a part of the Sunstates family. We were very fortunate to have had Candace Robinson work for our team. Team members from the Houston region participated in the 23rd Annual Take A Child Fishing Tournament in May by providing security for the event. This event allows us to show our support for our client and community. Over 300 children participated with their families, bringing the total attendance to almost 700 people! One of the best things about the entire event is that 625 pounds of canned food was collected to help fill a local food pantry! Officer Aubrey Luman, Sgt. Rae Bradford, Sgt. Crystal Gilbert and Officer Cathy Kirkpatrick (not pictured) were the ground crew for the event. This team helped ensure the attendee's overall safety and provided crowd control for the door prize giveaways and the fish weigh-ins.
