Sometimes the best perspective is a fresh perspective. Lisa Van Loo, Sr. Director of Corporate Global Professional Development, started a pilot program to support new leaders in their onboarding process six months after joining our company. “Onboarding at a new company can be daunting for anyone, myself included,” said Lisa, who is a certified life coach. “At Tory, we like to move at super speed. It’s easy to get swept up in the way we do things, but we need our leaders to be changemakers, to question the way we do things. These coaching sessions are designed to support and push our leaders to maintain their confidence and skills, while navigating a lot of newness.” The program features five one-to-one coaching sessions focused on everything from defining goals that are aligned to their department’s priorities to demystifying their leadership style for their team. Shanà Williams, who joined us in June as Director of Production Planning for Footwear, appreciated the time and space to process all the newness and change. “It was interactive, fun and without pressure,” she said.
Our Chief People Officer Keisha Smith-Jeremie has created a tradition at our company; each year, she invites the global team to set an intention for how we want to show up for ourselves and for each other in the New Year. Many members of #TeamTory find it a helpful practice and share their goals in six words or less on our intranet. As Keisha noted in an email, “Seeing the words in in print or pixels can give your intention more substance; it’s no longer simply a wish, but a commitment to yourself.” Her six-word intention for 2023? Lean into your loves every day. To her, this means “Don’t wait for joy to come to you — choose the people and places and things that bring a smile to your face and nourish your soul.”
Art, fashion and women who chart their own path. These are creative touchstones for Tory Burch and they came together in a special event at our Mercer Street boutique in New York City this week. Writer and art historian Sarah Hoover joined Tory for a conversation about Claire McCardell’s 1956 book, "What Shall I Wear?", reissued in August with a new foreword by Tory. The pair discussed McCardell’s lasting influence on fashion — she is regarded as the inventor of American sportswear and was the first designer to put pockets on dresses — as well as broader themes of women’s empowerment and feminism. Hoover drew connections between McCardell and the ’40s artist Alice Neel, whose paintings celebrated women and challenged convention just as McCardell’s clothing did. Guests included Emily Ratajkowski, Huma Abedin and more.
We are thrilled to welcome Kniecole Lewis as the Store Director at our Mercer Street boutique in New York City. “I’m super-excited to work for such an amazing brand with values so closely aligned with my own,” she said. “I’m looking forward to being the Admired Leader who fosters an environment of curiosity and collaboration.” We can’t wait to see the impact she will create for our customers and for our team! Interested in working with inspiring retail leaders like Kniecole? We have openings for seasonal workers – it’s a great way to explore a career in this exciting industry.
Thank you to Inc. Magazine for including Tory on your “Female Founders 100” list of the top women entrepreneurs of the year. Tory is recognized “for supporting the next generation of female founders through robust grant and loan programs” offered through the Tory Burch Foundation. In fact, two of the Foundation’s Fellows also made the list. Congratulations to Denise Woodard of Partake Foods and Kayla Castañeda of Agua Bonita! In an accompanying article, Tory shared one of her productivity hacks: "You have to take one thing at a time. That's something I learned from my parents. If you're thinking about everything at once, it's almost too much to get through. I think you dissect it, take one item at a time, and do the best you can."
Passersby would be forgiven for wondering why a group of people on a Soho street were lined up in a T formation. Or why another group had their arms stretched to the sky, a row of Ys against the cityscape. It was part of our US Talent Team’s summer outing -- one of several outdoor adventures happening across NYC as #TeamTory celebrates the season and the opportunity to spend time together. “After the past two years, we wanted everyone to take the time to reconnect in person safely, have some fun and make great new memories,” explained Chief People Officer Keisha Smith-Jeremie. So on a recent July morning, the Talent team converged at our Mercer Street boutique for a scavenger hunt with clues aligned to brand values, inspirations and history. In honor of Tory’s love of travel, for example, each team had to find a person, place or thing that spoke to the spirit of wanderlust and take a group photo in the letter T formation. The hunt concluded with lunch at Laduree Soho, where the team laughed over photos of themselves in T, O, R and Y configurations. A letter-perfect outing.

At Tory Burch, we are always looking for innovative thinkers and creative leaders who are passionate about what they do and are seeking a work environment where people are encouraged to dream, explore, discover and, as important, laugh together. To further advance our social media presence and take it to the next level, we are looking for a visionary VP, Brand and Social Media who will develop and lead the strategy and execution that introduces our brand to new audiences while inspiring followers and further building our desirability globally. “If you have an imagination and an entrepreneurial spirit, you will have the runway to create astonishing work,” said Creative Director Honor Brodie.
Ashley Straley recently joined our team, leading Retail Talent Acquisition for the U.S. and Canada. “Our Retail stores are an exciting place to work because we empower our retail associates to act as entrepreneurs--we want you to think of your boutique as your business. It’s an opportunity to flex your creative muscles while also being strategic. We also provide an abundance of resources and tools to support continued growth and development. “I’ve also been so impressed by the tenure and talent legacy within our retail organization! Our SVP of North America Retail has been with the company for 10 years, starting as a buyer and moving up over time. One of our sales associates has been with us since Tory opened her very first boutique in 2004. The investment in our people and teams is admirable and inspiring!”
