Social distancing has made it difficult for residents to enjoy community amenities across the country. Our team at Clippership Wharf in East Boston, MA, launched a Friday concert series. Local Boston musicians play from the community's courtyard and residents can watch from their balconies or stream the performances virtually. On April 22, 1970, millions of Americans celebrated the inaugural Earth Day with demonstrations, clean-ups and other activities, inspiring a shift in environmental consciousness. A half century later, we confront many of these same challenges, but with an even greater sense of urgency. This year, the global COVID-19 pandemic has complicated Earth Day; however, it offers us an opportunity to view our situation through the lens of resilience. WinnCompanies Vice President of Sustainability Darien Crimmin has written an open letter, filled with hope and vision for overcoming challenges. To accompany his vision, we are also passing along these tips on how you can celebrate Earth Day while complying with stay-at-home orders and public health needs. You can view the full open letter here:

In this new role, Terri will report to WinnResidential President Patrick Appleby and will be responsible for reinforcing and strengthening the management company’s operational excellence across the residential portfolio in 16 states and the District of Columbia.
WinnCompanies values their collaboration and partnership with the National Apartments Association. As the housing industry experiences unprecented times, we look to guidance from our nation's leading experts. Here is an article from the NAA outlining some ways that housing leaders can support their residents as we all navigate the landscap of COVID-19.
It’s been an increasingly busy month for WinnCompanies as our 3,500 team members have been working hard every day to adapt to the extraordinary circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic in the 23 states where we manage a wide range of apartment communities. WinnCompanies CEO Gilbert Winn, WinnResidential President Patrick Appleby and Human Resources Senior Vice President Lorraine Witunski began hosting a series of virtual town hall meetings to discuss the company’s response and to hear from our team members. The sessions included status reports from our Regional Vice Presidents and provided the latest information for our team members. More importantly, we had a chance to connect with each other and talk about how we can work together to balance the needs of our workforce with the needs of the more than 330,000 residents for whom we are responsible.
As the world responds to this unprecedented pandemic, our team members are working hard to give guidance and leadership to the residents we serve. Community Coordinator Kim Terry serves The Residences at Hampstead School, a community of 114 low-income seniors in Hampstead, MD. Many of her elderly residents are experiencing anxiety due to COVID-19. Kim posted on her personal Facebook page seeking ways to encourage residents. The community response has been astounding. Children at The Right Start Daycare Center in neighboring Reiserstown, MD, dropped off handmade cards; the North East Social Action Program will be dropping off non-perishables, puzzles and books; and anonymous members of the community have dropped off large-print puzzles, painting supplies and even plants, pots and potting soil to bring joy to our seniors. We would like to thank Kim, members of the Hampstead community, and all of our team members for their generosity, creativity and hard work.
WinnCompanies and Connected Communities have received the CORES certification and acknowledgement from Fannie Mae and Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF). Thank you to our hard-working Connected Communities team members, who collectively provide housing-based resident services to more than 330,000 residents across WinnCompanies' portfolio.
Our Lowell Corporate office was feeling the love on Valentine's Day! Team members from the region celebrated with an employee and resident appreciation party at our Boott Mills properties.
Team members from WinnDevelopment and our partner, NeighborWorks Housing Solutions, were at the Urban Land Institute Housing Opportunity 2020 Conference in Miami, Florida this week! A reception was held to honor the recipients of the 2019 ULI Housing Awards, including The Watson, which received the Terwilliger Center for Housing’s Jack Kemp Excellence in Affordable and Workforce Housing Award!
