Pros

When I was first hired at CI, I would rave about it and tell everyone how great of a place it was. It changed my whole life around. I recieved several pay increases and I was promoted into Account management quickly.

Cons

Everything started to go down hill during their first rounds of massive layoffs. Then the new CEO took over and every couple of months for the next few years they were laying off people. It was hard to stay productive and care about your work when you always felt like you were next on the chopping block... then eventually I ,along with my entire team, was laid off. It was funny how a couple months before laying us off, they made us do this training that was suppose to convince us why we were important and to basically not stress over Ai... when in truth, there were so many people leaving on their own due to organizational changes that happened over the summer I think they feared they wouldn't have enough people left to take them through the holiday rush lol. Once we were done making the company their money for the holiday season they let us all go. The Customink now isn't the Customink I started with. They didn't even advertise for pride month in June on their website like they usually do. They must be feeling the pressure of the current political climate we are in and now... they are becoming just like the rest of these money hungry corporations that care more about record profits than people... I miss when Marc was the ceo and I wish everyone the best who's still there! I can't imagine the stress they're under. Also, I know Customink loves to response to these reviews but there's no need. I'm already laid off and your ratings speak for themselves.

Thank you for your candid feedback. While we acknowledge your request that a response wasn't necessary, we felt it was important to reach out and validate the concerns you’ve raised. We never want a team member to feel like "just a number," and we sincerely hear your frustration regarding the impact of organizational changes and the timing of our recent AI initiatives. It is disheartening to hear that the sense of security and culture you once raved about has felt diminished. We believe in the importance of acknowledging these difficult shifts directly rather than staying silent. We remain committed to supporting all Inkers—including those transitioning out of the company—with severance and extended benefits to help bridge the gap to their next opportunity. Thank you for your honesty and for the significant growth you’ve achieved here.

Pros

Work-life balance (prior to layoffs)

Cons

Leadership executed a deeply misleading and poorly managed “restructure.” A new 6–9 step sales methodology was rolled out in phases, yet reps were graded on all steps in live calls before being trained on them. Managers were still learning how to score the rubric, resulting in failing evaluations for criteria employees had not been taught. After rolling out raises, increased incentives, expanded benefits, and a highly publicized sales contest, the company abruptly issued a layoff warning and canceled the required training and role-play session the same day. Severance had already been significantly reduced beforehand. The company is backed by large institutional/private equity ownership, and decisions appeared driven by cost-cutting and optics rather than employee development or ethical change management. The process lacked transparency, fairness, and basic operational integrity. Employees were asked to commit to new standards without being given the tools to meet them, then were treated as disposable. Proceed with extreme caution.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed reflection on your experience. We are glad that you enjoyed a positive work-life balance for much of your tenure, and we sincerely appreciate the five-plus years you spent as an Inker. Regarding the sales methodology rollout, our intent was to introduce a consistent framework and use call reviews as a baseline coaching tool. The scoring was designed to help both Account Executives and their leaders identify development areas and strengths. We recognize, however, that the feeling evaluated while everyone was still learning the new methodology may not have felt as supportive as intended. While organizational decisions are often made to ensure long-term sustainability, we recognize that the way these changes are managed has a profound impact on our people. Your feedback regarding communication, fairness, and the need for better tools is invaluable as we reflect on how to best support our teams. We’re grateful for the time you spent here and genuinely wish you the best moving forward.

Pros

Free junk Real life soap opera

Cons

Pay- never made enough to support a family. Never got a raise even though I was an over performer for the majority of the decade I was there. Instead, I was threatened with PIPs when I stopped over performing and just did the job I was getting paid to do. Career advancement- does not exist Live in a constant state of fear- your job is never safe unless you are a handful of people. “Leadership”- money hungry idiots who want all the money and couldn’t care less for the people who actually make it for them. Forcing of positive ratings in quarterly company ratings- it’s supposed to be an anonymous survey. But they always know who didn’t give them perfect scores. And it always affected you negatively in your annual review. So if you stood any chance in getting a decent annual review, you give them perfect marks in every review you submit about the company. But don’t worry too much if you don’t get a good review, it’s not like you were getting a raise if you got a good review. To put it in perspective… I got the highest review possible in an annual review (which is extremely hard to do) and received a pay increase that resulted in an extra $1,300 a YEAR.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective and for the many years you dedicated to Custom Ink. We recognize the frustration expressed regarding advancement, the pressure you felt surrounding performance and job security, and leadership. Hearing that you felt unable to support a family on your wages is difficult, and we appreciate your honesty regarding the impact of our merit process. You also raised concerns about the anonymity and consequences of internal feedback. We want to acknowledge that this perception matters. We recently made changes to our Inker feedback process, including transitioning to a new survey platform with strengthened anonymity safeguards. These include minimum response thresholds before results are shared and limitations designed to prevent individual attribution. While no system is perfect, we intend to ensure feedback can be shared safely and used constructively. While it’s clear that the challenges you describe ultimately outweighed the positives, we hope there were moments during your time at Custom Ink that felt meaningful, even if the overall experience did not meet your expectations. We value the contributions you made over the course of your tenure and wish you the very best.
