What once was a great company is no longer....

Pros

I worked for Senior LifeStyle for over 6 years; in the beginning, I was sure I had found the best company. Lots of encouragement for growth; great leadership at the home office and a culture that cared. I honestly cannot list any pros after the last 1.5 years of working there; which is very unfortunate.

Cons

A company that had a vision for growth and was poised with the right leadership to do so; didn't execute well. The great leadership left or was let go and those that came in their place were no where near the caliber of who was there previously. Benefits continued to be no cut; and once I found another company, I realized there are better benefit packages out there. Inconsistency with the new acquisition properties made it difficult to help manage them through the onboarding - the benefits were not the same; many variances. Those in the field trying to make it better were often left frustrated with no great advice or follow through. Training needs completely revamped.

Pros

The residents are a joy to work with. On the local level staff are caring and want to do a good job for the most part.

Cons

I read negative reviews before starting and then dismissed them. Don't do what I did! I had no formalized orientation. The corporate leaders are out of touch with senior care. They run like they are a hotel going after their next room rental. They expect Executive Directors to work 70+ hours a week. HR flat out said yes 6 days a week 12-14 hours a day are the reality some weeks. In my two months it was the reality almost every week. I begged for more orientation - they finally sent it after I had a very emotional plea. It was too late by then at the end of another 15 hour day I threw in the towel. They send emails with the expectation to turn around reports within hours. They make you feel threatened if you don't get it done. There are webinars and conference calls all day long. They monitor if you're on and send nasty-grams if not. They held a meeting in Chicago and the first hour the LPN-COO (really?) spent an hour lecturing that the EDs need to collect more AR because they were only making close to $200 million. In the meantime residents care is going down, state citations going up. If you are someone who cares about caring for seniors and healthcare stay away. If sales and marketing and getting the next dollar and going to conference calls all day long thrills you then this is for you. If you like a company that turns people over on a corporate level monthly get a job here. In my short two months there were like 4 regional leaders who turned over. It's a revolving door. And for all levels the salaries are horrible so you get what you pay for. If you have any integrity don't go here - if you like fleecing the greatest generation then this place is for you!

Pros

I worked with an amazing team of people in the field that truly cared about what they did every day.

Cons

This company is falling apart. They have lost so many excellent people, especially at the regional and corporate level and the field is suffering for it. I am not sure what more has to happen for it to end. This was a fantastic company with so much promise and in less than a years time it has been completely dismanted. I would suggest anyone taking a job here wait until some major changes have happened. There are still so many good really good regionals here but they won't last long and frankly their hands are tied anyway. They do not have the ability to do the right thing anymore.
