Pros

UFCU is the largest financial institution in Austin, TX. It is also closely affiliated with the University of Texas and has a contract for many of the ATMs on campus.

Cons

A couple of years ago, the CEO stepped down and handed the reigns of power to the CFO, Yung Truan, he had been grooming for a decade or more to take over. This new CEO is smart and very cunning when it comes to making more money and cutting labor costs and other expenses that don't improve the numbers. The only grievance I have is how the "soul of UFCU" was gutted as soon as the new CEO took over. Although the core values were still posted everywhere, there was this feeling that only the hollow shell of it still existed as a propaganda ploy rather than the true spirit that it once was with Tony Budet at the helm. It would be in poor taste to get to specific with all the examples, but please understand what you are walking into if you decide to work at UFCU. I personally had several occasions as a senior leader within the organization to witness Yung Tran's lack of integrity and dishonest dealings. Folks, UFCU is literally rotten to the core.

Pros

Great people who genuinely care about the work they do. I've never worked with a more caring genuine group of people.

Cons

When I started the Vice Presidents were empowered to lead their respective units. The CEO's leadership style was delegate and empower. Mid way through my tenure, the CFO took over leading all internal operations so the CEO could focus externally on politics and philanthropy. This change resulted in a more micro-manager/results-focused leader. Over time he replaced true leaders with those that were more in line with his style changing the culture of UFCU for the worse (as others have noted). Nowhere is this new style more apparent than within IT where the switch from a true leader to a micro-manager has resulted in massive departures in less than a year's time. It used to be you felt valued and cared for as a person at UFCU. By the time I left I felt like a cog in the machine plain and simple.

Pros

Great benefits and company mission.

Cons

Clueless senior IT management. Strict dress code. The middle IT managers are just clueless and demoralizing. The senior IT management seem to encourage it.
