Scientists at 23andMe and Google have collaborated to improve the accuracy and utility of the reference dataset from 23andMe’s African American Sequencing Project. "This work will help address disparities in genetic research," said Jared O'Connell, a 23andMe senior scientist for sequencing and lead author for the paper.

Scott Hadly is a Senior Managing Editor on 23andMe’s Communications team. He oversees the blog, writes most of the content there and helps write messaging and other documents for his team. Scott has worked at 23andMe for over 10 years. When asked why, he said, “The short answer is what 23andMe does is fascinating. Not just that but we have a one-of-a-kind leader in Anne. I've worked in a lot of different jobs so I know how rare it is to have a leader like her. It has also been a good place for my family and me, offering a perfect balance between work and home life.” Outside of his role as a writer and editor, Scott has been involved in initiatives to diversify 23andMe's genetic research. He’s also been a part of the mentoring program at 23andMe and played soccer and softball with 23andMe’s teams.
23andMe CEO Anne Wojcicki spoke to Inc. Magazine about how she's able to view failures as learning opportunities. "You should be a constant learning machine," she said. "Totally embrace when something doesn't go right. It's not something to be embarrassed about. Most things in life don't work, and if you don't learn from them, how are you ever going to figure out what does work?"
Friday was the fifth annual Diwali celebration for 23andMe employees. The event was presented by Sherrin Varghese from the studio, The Circuit. It included an introduction to the Festival of Lights, a five day long celebration that marks the start of the Hindu New Year, and a private virtual concert that was live from India featuring Leslee Lewis, an Indie Pop and Classical Fusion artist.
