Happy National Engineers Week! A mechanical engineer in Billings, Montana, Allyn Jorgensen says she enjoys her work in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) design because it’s “like a big puzzle.” An interest in math, physics, and taking things apart led to her career as an engineer, and she helps others learn about STEM fields through volunteer work with STEM Yellowstone and MSU Billings Girls-in-Science.
Designing Star Market in this dense urban environment, during construction of the overall development, required close coordination with The Hub on Causeway developers, Boston Properties and Delaware North, and architect, Gensler. Some of the complexities included making horizontal connections to the existing parking garage below the train station/stadium by cutting through the three-foot thick stadium foundation wall and creatively locating the supermarket’s 13 heating and cooling units within the ceiling space.
