MidMichigan Health's Medical Centers in Alpena, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot and Midland have received Michigan's Quality Improvement Organization (MPRO) 2019 Governor's Awards of Excellence.
MidMichigan Medical Center - Midland is hosting a career fair for its housekeeping department - there are several full-time, part-time and casual job opportunities. The event will be held from 2 - 6 p.m. on May 15, in the Medical Center's Private Dining Room, located inside the Plane Tree Cafe.
MidMichigan Health is opening a Pain Management Program in West Branch in June. MidMichigan has partnered with Pain Management Group (PMG), a hospital-based pain management provider, to establish the program, and it will be staffed by Spencer Bertram, D.C., M.D., a fellowship-trained and board-certified pain management specialist. The program will be located inside the Medical Arts Center in West Branch, at 335 E. Houghton Avenue, Suite 3.
April 2019 marks the first anniversary of MidMichigan Medical Center – West Branch joining the MidMichigan Health family. Construction of an innovative Emergency Department on the campus of the Medical Center is just one of many accomplishments since joining MidMichigan nearly a year ago. In the last 12 months, significant progress has been made in the Medical Center’s transition to the health system. “Our partnership with MidMichigan Health has strengthened our Medical Center,” said Bob McGrail, president, MidMichigan Medical Center – West Branch. “Our hope with the affiliation was to increase services, bring new physicians to the region, and improve our quality of care. I am happy to report we have made great strides in all three areas.”
MidMichigan Physicians Group was recently awarded several physician engagement awards by national health care research leader Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC). Excellence in Healthcare Awards recognize organizations and individuals who achieve excellence throughout the year by improving patient experiences, healthcare employee engagement, timely patient care, provider communication and engagement, based on patient surveys. MidMichigan Physicians Group providers recognized this year include Family Medicine Physician Sasha Savage, M.D., and Physician Assistant Cara Callan, P.A.-C., who received the Top Performer Award. There were also 85 physicians and advanced practice providers who were recognized with the 5-Star Excellence in Healthcare Award. In addition, the following departments were recognized as Five Star Performers: the Center for Women’s Health, the Surgical ICU and the Maternal Child Health Unit at MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland, and inpatient rehabilitation services at MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot.

The public is invited to attend an open house to celebrate the opening of MidMichigan Health Park – Gladwin on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. The 17,000 square-foot facility at 1105 E. Cedar Ave., is located on the north side of M-61 across from Chemical Bank in Gladwin. During the event, attendees will be introduced to staff and health care providers, and have an opportunity to tour the facility. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 6 p.m., and light refreshments will be served. The new building houses primary care providers, an urgent care center, walk-in services for lab and X-ray, as well as a primary access care clinic designed to help patients who need more complex follow up care after an Emergency Department visit.
Patients in Alpena will now have more opportunities to receive walk-in care for minor illnesses and injuries when their regular doctor is not available. MidMichigan Health is opening a new Walk-In Care facility on July 9 at 199 Long Rapids Road. Hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This replaces the walk-in service that currently is offered in the nearby family medicine office. Jeffery Kwiatkowski, P.A.-C., who currently provides this service in family medicine, will be moving to this new location. The public is also welcome to use this new service, including pediatric and adult patients, regardless of whether they have a MidMichigan primary care provider.
A new group of physicians, the Greater Midland Emergency Physicians (GMEP), will provide Emergency Department care at MidMichigan Medical Center – West Branch beginning July 2. Dr. Paul Bucchi, a partner at GMEP, has been named medical director for the Medical Center. “We are very excited to come to West Branch,” said Dr. Bucchi. “We are invested in MidMichigan Health and will be in the Medical Center and the community. We look forward to working with the Emergency Department team and providing excellent patient care to every patient.” GMEP is a private group of physicians and mid-level providers. The group provides emergency medicine for several Medical Centers including MidMichigan Health subsidiaries in Alma and Mt. Pleasant. GMEP is devoted to excellence in emergency medicine.
MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland’s Center for Women’s Health has recently been re-certified as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence by the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers (NQMBC™). MidMichigan is the only breast health program in the Great Lakes Bay Region to achieve this level of certification, and is now one of only two Certified Quality Breast Centers of Excellence in the state of Michigan. This certification is the highest level that a breast health center can achieve, and recognizes a center’s quality performance as meeting quality standards criteria.
