Today is National Flex Day! Flex Day, which began in 2013, celebrates flexible work arrangements. It has been over a year and a half since SSOE rolled out its Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) program, and it continues to be an employee favorite. The program demonstrates our commitment to employees, and is one of many work perks helping us to attract and retain talent in a very competitive market. Our award-winning culture validates this commitment to our employees and their work-life balance. #FlexDay #workperks #chooseSSOE

Senior Project Managers Ed Gerken and Sam Thurber were recently quoted in this Food Engineering article that talks pet food and compliance—specifically preventive controls requirements mandated by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that were recently expanded to include animal and pet food. Pet food manufacturing can be a risky business due to the increased potential for contamination when compared to human food. Lucky for us, our typical design services for pet food clients are no different than those we provide for our human food producing clients, making these new requirements a piece of cake for our team.
Alignment leads to satisfaction! SSOE is featured in the latest edition of Plant Engineering. The article highlights how expediting decisions and increased collaboration can improve project satisfaction for integrated project delivery. In addition, soliciting broader input brings precision to schedules and budgets.

Yes we CAN! SSOE Group partnered with David Evans and Associates, Inc., Otak, and Modulus Consulting for Canstruction Portland—a nonprofit that hosts exhibitions and competitions of inventive sculptures made entirely out of cans of food to benefit the Oregon Food Bank. Our structure, titled “Look Beyond What You See,” is a replica of the Lion King’s Pride Rock and took almost 5,000 cans of food to construct. More than 1,000 votes were cast in favor of our team’s design, making it the People’s Choice Award winner this year. Canstruction has helped donate more than 1.1 million meals to help fight hunger in Oregon and Southwest Washington. #SSOEcares #SSOEportland
Architect Tim Swartz and Designer Aaron Wheat recently joined our client, Owens Community College, for its annual Alumni Golf Classic. Over the past 15 years, the event has raised more than $350,000 in support of scholarships and outreach initiatives. Last month, Owens broke ground on its 58,000 SF Dana Advanced Manufacturing Training Center, a project for which we provided architectural, engineering, and interior design services that adds yet another state-of-the-art workforce development center to our ever-growing portfolio. It's National Workforce Development Month, and our work on thousands of industrial projects combined with our robust higher education experience has made SSOE uniquely qualified to align design with workforce needs. #WorkforceDevelopment
Celebrating diversity in Nashville! For the past 15 years Electrical Designer JJ Otto, who works in our Nashville office, has been spending her spare time volunteering with the Festival of the Nations—a nonprofit focused on encouraging unity through diversity by celebrating cultural differences. Earlier this month, JJ served as the entertainment director for the Festival of Nations' involvement in the SSOE-sponsored Tennessee State Fair, bringing a variety of multicultural performance acts to the 10-day event. Diversity and inclusion is one of SSOE’s core values, representing our commitment to living out this guiding principle on a daily basis and integrating it into our permanent DNA. #chooseSSOE #SSOEsoutheast
We've participated in STEM in the Park at Bowling Green State University's Perry Field House for several years and look forward to engaging children of all ages in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics again on Saturday at this fun and family-friendly event. #SSOEcares
Our career fair roadshow is in full swing! Today, we're at Tennessee Tech University’s Hooper Eblen Center for their STEM Career Fair and at The University of Toledo’s Savage Arena for their Engineering Career Expo. We continue to grow our presence in Nashville, and have a long history of partnering with the University of Toledo that dates back to our founding. In fact, UT grads make up 14% of our employees across the U.S., several of which will be in tow to share their experience at SSOE. We’re excited to engage with the next generation of STEM professionals at these two events. #chooseSSOE
