ReCap to the max! SSOE’s Mark LaBell, Senior VDC Technical Leader, will be facilitating a hands-on lab at Autodesk University Las Vegas in November, where our resident BIM and AEC technology experts have been invited to present for the past 8 years. Mark’s session will provide attendees with instruction and best practices for editing point clouds in Autodesk ReCap, a program for working with native point clouds from laser scans. Additionally, our experts will go over the software’s demolition workflow, a feature that has served us well in creating various demolition packages through the years. We’re also sending employees from each business unit to attend the conference—disciplines ranging to include engineers, architects, model managers, designers, project managers, and business leaders—with the goal being to innovate and inspire staff across the organization to find better ways of doing work.

Earlier this week, we joined our client La-Z-Boy and partner Rudolph Libbe for the grand opening and ceremonial ribbon cutting of their new $16 million R&D facility in Dayton, Tennessee. Called the La-Z-Boy Innovation Center, the 70,000 SF facility sits across the street from the furniture maker’s largest manufacturing plant and houses a model shop, technology center, test lab, and 3D printing lab and will provide a flexible workplace environment for nearly 80 employees. Our team delivered an architectural design that is reflective of La-Z-Boy’s Michigan headquarters, while also providing various engineering services, steel detailing, interior design, and more. In addition, the facility is on track for LEED Silver certification—an exciting prospect that will allow us to add on to our billion-dollar portfolio of LEED-certified projects.
Our BIM2Fab® Steel team in Mumbai is gearing up for a project that will soon keep them very busy, providing structural engineering and steel detailing services for a large material-handling equipment supplier to one of our automotive manufacturing clients. To prepare for the influx in workload, we took an opportunity to take a load off and team build before project kick-off, enjoying a few entertaining billiard games during lunch.
