United as one, we change the story of many. This week was our corporate-wide United Way Campaign kick-off. To ramp things up, CEO-elect Vince DiPofi reminded employees of SSOE’s tradition of giving—not just by way of charitable contributions, but by donating our time and talents to the communities where we live and work. The campaign continues through the month, with events that include a STEM Kit Build, Dunk-a-CEO, Giant Trike Races, and our annual raffle. #LiveUnited #SSOEcares
Putting our experts to the test: recently, the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID) decided to update their rigorous Certified Healthcare Interior Designer® exam. Because of her experience in residential healthcare and support facility design, the organization turned to SSOE’s Jennifer Hrosko, Senior Interior Designer who is herself certified by AAHID. Jennifer joined a small team of experts responsible for writing and reviewing the new exam format. Collectively, the team was able to develop over 250 questions in an aggressive 3 months.
Building momentum in the Glass City! Momentum, a 3-day festival that takes place in Downtown Toledo where our world headquarters also resides, is fast approaching—commencing September 19th. To elicit excitement for the event, The Arts Commission has been sprinkling “herdlings” around town, inflatable swim rings that will be connected as part of an art installation and serve as a tribute to local residents and the city itself. Our Toledo employees were amused by our visitor while he was here—even CEO Bob Howell got in on the fun! #chooseSSOE
The widespread damage and devastation that Category 5 Hurricane Dorian continues to cause has relief organizations scrambling to provide shelter, supplies, and assistance. Please join SSOE by donating to Hurricane Dorian Red Cross Disaster Relief. #HurricaneDorian #SSOEcares

SSOE in the Southeast: last month’s Open House event to celebrate our new Birmingham, Alabama office was a success, pulling in a great crowd. It was a welcomed opportunity to connect with our local client base and demonstrate the many ways we’re using technology differently to deliver more value to their projects. #SSOEsoutheast
Last week, SSOE technology experts Tony Sabat and Mark LaBell presented a lunch and learn to employees at our Nashville office to showcase the capabilities of reality capture and how it can benefit projects of any size. With the expansion of what Tony calls the “reality capture spectrum,” our Virtual Design and Construction team is able to integrate reality capture—or laser scanning—into more facets of projects, allowing us to create Advanced Work Packaging that can improve the quality, speed, and cost of projects. Later in the week, we also had the exciting opportunity to discuss innovations and explore technology strategies with some of our clients, an activity we look forward to doing more of with interested clients. #SSOEsoutheast
Working well: earlier this month, our office in Mumbai offered wellness exams for employees right in the office. Employees had the convenient opportunity to receive their annual check-up—including lab work and physician consultation—without leaving the premises. At SSOE, we’ve designed our award-winning benefits program as a vital part of our total rewards package, advancing employee success and satisfaction. We’ve incorporated additional health and wellness programs that promote preventive care and overall well-being to empower employees to be well and enjoy all aspects of life. #SSOEindia #workperks #chooseSSOE
Returning refreshed: it was back to school last week for our client Anthony Wayne Local School District. High school students were welcomed back with a number of new amenities, including state-of-the-art chemistry labs, auxiliary gym and locker room, secure entrance, expanded student dining spaces, as well as a few minor renovations and energy-saving modifications. Additionally, Waterville Primary showed off its new 6,500 SF building addition containing three new classrooms and multiple tutoring spaces, along with a new covered entry for the school’s community room. Construction on office additions for Anthony Wayne Junior High and Fallen Timbers Middle School continues, and will offer security vestibules at each school that are scheduled to be completed in early November. Both schools also had renovations completed over the summer, which consisted of restroom upgrades, additional science rooms, and a new entry at the junior high gym.
SSOE’s Erick Kuri, Division Manager of our Mexico operations, was recently featured in industry-leading publication Building Design+Construction (BD+C) in “Managing the Last Mile,” an article that examines the impact ecommerce has made on the industrial industry. Within, the article also showcases our recent work for Walmart Mexico—a total of three in-country distribution centers for which SSOE was engaged in the design and construction management—and shares what’s trending in warehouse design. Consistently named among the largest AEC firms in BD+C’s Giants 300 Report, SSOE boasted a #4 ranking in industrial engineering for the past 2 years. BD+C subscribers can read the full article on page 52 of last month’s issue. #SSOEmexico
