Breaking new ground in higher ed: next week, CEO Bob Howell, Sonny Hamizadeh, and Mike Duffy will represent SSOE at the ceremonial groundbreaking for Owens Community College’s new Advanced Manufacturing Training Center. Our manufacturing facility design experts worked closely with our higher education team to design the 58,690 SF training center that will house more than $3 million worth of equipment and serve as an effective recruiting tool for the college to attract and retain students while preparing them for today’s workforce. Our work on thousands of industrial projects combined with our education expertise helped our team successfully provide architectural, civil, structural, MEP, data / fire / security, and interior design services on this cutting-edge project. #WorkforceDevelopment
SSOE’s Kate Groop, Learning and Development Specialist, will present “Understanding Adult Learning Needs for More Effective Training” at BizLibrary’s ALIGN conference next week. The event—which takes place in St. Louis, Missouri—brings together learning professionals across industries to discuss best practices and trends in employee development. Kate is an important member of our full-time learning and development team dedicated to providing employees with the tools and knowledge they need to propel their future. At SSOE, investing in our talent is not just one of our benefits, it’s an essential part of our business strategy. #chooseSSOE

Last Friday, employees from our Toledo office spent an evening on the green at the SSOE-sponsored "9 & Wine FORE Autism" event at Stone Oak Country Club. The 9-hole golf scramble and wine tasting benefited Avenues for Autism's many programs, including Venture Bound—a transition-to-employment program specifically designed to help students with cognitive challenges develop job skills and plan for the future. #SSOEcares

Advancing your project with AWP: in this New Equipment Digest article, SSOE's Lauren Collier writes about integrating engineering and procurement packages to improve the quality, speed, and cost of industrial projects through Advanced Work Packaging (AWP). The AWP process not only provides a solution to a reduction in resources and project budgets, it creates a shared risk / reward scenario and streamlines the release of work to limit waste to align perfectly with Lean Project Delivery.
Earlier this month, we joined Midstory--Toledo's Media Thinkhub--for their event: "A City in Transit." A group of local SSOE employees volunteered to work our booth where they took attendees on a virtual tour of the Downtown Toledo Train Station using point cloud data captured using our in-house laser scanning equipment (even Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz stopped by to learn more!). We also shared our newly released Impact Video, but the highlight for us were the STEM activities we did with our younger visitors. The event was a collective success, and we left feeling inspired and excited about the future of the city where SSOE has been headquartered since 1948. #SSOEcares
Today, our healthcare design team in Troy, Michigan joined our friends at Covenant HealthCare for their Premiere Golf Classic at Apple Mountain Golf Course. Our long-standing partnership with Covenant has spanned 20+ years and more than 150 projects, most recently helping them with their Cooper Campus hybrid operating room addition that houses the innovative ARTIS pheno®, a robotic C-arm angiography system that's the first of its kind in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
