On Tuesday, our friends at Midstory stopped by our world headquarters in Toledo to learn about our company and why we've chosen to call the Glass City "home" since 1948. SSOE employees from a variety of disciplines shared their professional journey with Midstory's student cohort, as well as the advantages of working in the revitalized post-industrial downtown. ICYMI: tomorrow, August 3rd, we'll be at Midstory's "A City in Transit" gala x expo where we will take attendees on a virtual tour of the venue's point cloud data via 3D model, captured with our in-house laser scanning equipment. This free event begins at 4:00 PM at the Downtown Toledo Train Station where 1,000+ attendees of all ages are expected to attend.

Summertime in the city! On Thursday, our Columbus crew grilled up a good time (and hot dogs) during lunch to round out a busy week. Nicknamed our “civil hub,” SSOE’s Columbus office has been busy leading efforts for clients like Speedway, Honda, Kenworth, and Transportation Research Center this summer, while preparing for the return of our Ohio State University co-ops this fall. Hard work aside, working with these folks makes every day feel like a picnic. #SSOEcolumbus #workperks #chooseSSOE

Driving support for those in need: earlier this month, SSOE’s Julie Dolan (pictured) and Mike Duffey joined several of our clients and colleagues at the Marathon Classic Presented by Dana. Julie traveled from SSOE’s Lima, Ohio office to join Mike and fellow volunteers as a valet for the event, which benefited the Children's Hunger Alliance in Toledo—a nonprofit that works to provide meals to Ohio’s hungry children for which Julie proudly serves on the regional advisory board. #SSOEcares
SOE’s Mark LaBell, Senior VDC Technical Leader, wrote this illuminating article on the innovative uses for laser scanning recently featured in New Equipment Digest. An integral tool on construction projects that offers time savings and mobility while increasing safety, laser scanning has created opportunities for us to significantly cut costs for our clients. At SSOE, we have the technology in-house to self-perform site scans, making it an option on projects with smaller budgets.
¡Día del Ingeniero en México! At the beginning of the month, our León office’s Employee Club brought in cake to celebrate Engineer’s Day in Mexico, a professional holiday that recognizes engineers and their contributions. Engineers make up more than 60% of our staff in Mexico, and their extensive local experience and knowledge of Mexican specifications and codes has been critical to the success of SSOE’s in-country projects—including Continental’s greenfield "plant of the future" in Aguascalientes that recently broke ground. #SSOEmexico #workperks #chooseSSOE
