Leading the way in workforce development design: SSOE was recently selected for A/E design services on the $30 million 120,000 SF skilled trades training center in Detroit—the largest investment the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights has ever made. The project, showcased in this Detroit News article, further positions SSOE as a leader in aligning education design with workforce needs—a growing priority for post-secondary institutions. Uniquely qualified for these types of projects based on our robust experience in both higher education and industrial facility design, we’re able to provide all services in house for this state-of-the-art training center that will help thousands of skilled trades professionals in Detroit and surrounding areas. #WorkforceDevelopment
SSOE's Lauren Collier published in IMPO Magazine where she shares her recommendations for elevating the value of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) on a project and harnessing its full potential.
Building up STEAM: this Tuesday, we spent the afternoon at the Bowling Green State University Perry Field House—this time, for STEAM Day. Nearly 400 students grades K-5 from the Wood County Educational Service Center’s STARS program took part in a day full of hands-on activities that provided them exposure to science, technology, engineering, art, math, and manufacturing. We successfully engaged youth attendees by helping them construct a popsicle stick catapult to launch mini marshmallows as a playful way of exploring Newton’s Laws of Motion and simple machines. #SSOEcares
Last Friday, SSOE hosted Hiring Our Heroes Fort Campbell Fellows at our Nashville office, where several of our organizational leaders shared important lessons on corporate culture and transitioning service members into the civilian workforce. SSOE has partnered with Hiring Our Heroes for years through the nonprofit’s Corporate Fellowship Program, participating in five 10-week-long cohorts where we provide on-the-job training opportunities to active duty service members. At SSOE, we love hiring veterans. We recognize the valuable skillsets military personnel possess and how directly relatable those skills are to our civilian positions—and actively employ more than 65 veterans at our 20+ locations. #SSOEsoutheast
ICYMI: SSOE’s Mary Stepnick co-authored this IMPO Magazine article highlighting the benefits of Lean Project Delivery (LPD). This transformational approach uses Lean principles to increase efficiency across the AEC industry. LPD is composed of various elements that can be utilized on any project, but offers more value the sooner all partners are involved in the project. This leverages the collaborative approach’s integrated tools and encourages a collective vision of success.

Although we’ve seen a lot of rain in the Midwest lately, it ceased long enough for members of our Toledo team to get a few swings in too. This time, we teed up to benefit Toledo Public Schools. The event was a hole in one, raising thousands for the school district. #SSOEcares
Scramble in the Southeast: earlier this month, SSOE’s Stephen Cotton, Senior Structural Engineer responsible for supporting auto manufacturing clients from our Nashville office, joined our friends at Crunk Engineering for the Middle Tennessee AIA Architecture Classic at Hermitage Golf Course where he worked on perfecting his swing. Incidentally, the thoughtful, analytical consideration our technical experts bring to our clients’ projects mirrors the mental dexterity required to successfully play this centuries-old precision sport where quality over quantity is key. #SSOEsoutheast
Serving up hope. Our Corporate Finance Department recently volunteered at Cherry Street Mission Ministries, preparing and serving meals to those in need. Not only does SSOE makes charitable contributions, globally and locally, throughout the year, but we also donate our time and talents to the nonprofit organizations that are important to our communities and around the world. Plus, employees have the opportunity to earn money for their favorite charities through SSOE’s volunteerism program. #SSOEcares #workperks #chooseSSOE
