IPD from A to Z: last week, we kicked off an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) project in Mexico City with training for the project team, rolling into the first Collaborative Design Session. Eight SSOE team members from our U.S. and Mexico offices participated. Within an IPD framework, all stakeholders work together at every stage of a project to achieve deliverables and meet objectives. Team success is tied to project success, sharing both risk and reward. Activities occur concurrently, allowing and engaging early contribution of knowledge and expertise of contractors and key trades, and we utilize Lean tools such as pull planning, Target Value Design, and Virtual Design and Construction, among others, to the fullest extent to bring our client optimal value.
Data, dubbed "the new oil", is now argued to be the world most valuable resource—but who owns it? SSOE's Tony Sabat, BIM / CAD Technical Specialist and one of several licensed drone pilots at SSOE, featured on the SPAR 3D guest blog where he explores the future of reality capture and its data and what it could mean to our clients and industry.

TBT: as Bob Howell, President and CEO, channels the optical style of Al Samborn and Jack Steketee, two of our four founders, we’re reminded that history repeats itself (and not only when it comes to fashion). As a firm, we once again find ourselves looking forward into the future, preparing for new leadership as well as the disruption of our industry. Although the future is bright, we find it’s important to remember our past—the 70-year journey that brought us to the present. Take a trip with us down memory lane at http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMBXh. #ThrowbackThursday #TBT
Leaning into learning: last week, a multidisciplinary group of SSOE employees traveled from our offices in Mexico, Ohio, and Minnesota to the Lean Construction Institute Lean in Design Forum in the Windy City of Chicago. As an organization, we’ve been taking actionable steps toward Lean Project Delivery (LPD), a strategy guided by a Lean mindset with a goal of defining and delivering a collective vision of success on projects. Our annual attendance at this event helps us maintain focus on LPD and bring back actionable learnings and best practices in design technology and innovation to apply on future projects. This year, highlights mentioned by our attendees included a Target Value Delivery cost benchmark workshop, Big Room workspace ideas, roundtable discussions on technology, and how to navigate complex decision making using Choosing By Advantages.
