Our Toledo office’s Employee Club, in partnership with our PRIDE Employee Resource Group, held a Pride Month Lunch last week. Employees could make a donation of $5 or more for pizza and salad from local eatery Le Pam Pam to benefit EqualityToledo. The event raised more than $300 for the nonprofit that works to eliminate discrimination in the region based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression through education and activism. #PrideMonth #SSOEcares
Howdy from Austin! Kicking off the month, local staff were welcomed to the office for their first day in the new space. To commemorate, we had a famously Texan spread of breakfast tacos in the morning and BBQ for lunch. It was so good, we couldn’t even get a photo before it was gone! Although our opening day was earlier this month, this isn’t our first rodeo. We’ve worked in Texas for the last 35 years and anticipate our Austin location will quickly grow to be one of our largest, already exceeding 40 employees—proving bigger really is better in Texas. #chooseSSOE #SSOEaustin
In this video, the fourth in our DEI at SSOE series, SSOE’s Candice Harrison, Director of DEI—alongside Vince DiPofi, CEO—announces our new podcast: A Blueprint for Equity. Each episode will explore the challenges and opportunities facing the AEC industry as we strive to create more equitable and inclusive environments, from job sites to conference rooms. Our guests will share their perspectives on key issues and help us understand how we can advance DEI practices in and around our industry. Our inaugural episode, “Cultivating a Climate of Diversity in Higher Ed,” is coming soon wherever you get your podcasts.
Leaning in at all levels! In addition to sponsoring LCI’s Lean in Design Forum as a silver-level sponsor this year, SSOE is also sending several attendees—including Matt Bierschbach, Alyson Dinca, and David Semproch, who've been selected as speakers at the June event. Joining them as attendees will be Catherine Myers, the executive sponsor for SSOE's Lean Operating Strategy and member of the LCI Board of Directors, and Lisa Hitchingham. Lisa, who served on the design forum planning committee for the past two years and was instrumental in the development of LCI’s new Engineering Design Award, quoted within. #PressRelease
At SSOE, collaboration is par for the course. Employees from various offices were recently welcomed to the Nashville office to attend our Automotive and Manufacturing Facilities business unit’s Mechanical and Structural Summits. With so many new faces in the office, we jumped at the opportunity to collaborate within departments and connect with new colleagues. The week's itinerary included joint outings ranging from lunch and learns and company dinners to an evening at Topgolf. The only thing we have left is to ask—when can y’all come back? #chooseSSOE #SSOEsoutheast
Sweet 16! On May 25th, SSOE was honored with United Way of Greater Toledo’s Pillar Award for the 16th consecutive year. We received this distinction and many others, including the Best in Show, Game Changer, and Year-Round Engagement awards. The nonprofit network’s annual campaign celebration took place at Glass City Metropark along the Maumee River. At the event, United Way also inducted SSOE’s Leo Link, Ronda Friesel, and Carrie Wakeman into its Campaign Manager Hall of Fame for their commitment to the Toledo-area community. In 2021, United Way of Greater Toledo moved into SSOE’s world headquarters, solidifying a community partnership between SSOE and United Way. #SSOEcares
The future is bright in Brighton! Last week, a few of our subject matter experts were on hand to meet with members of the Brighton community to discuss how we keep health and safety front and center in our designs. Amprius Technologies invited us to participate in the two-night open house event to demystify the battery manufacturing process as the design partner on Amprius’ future facility, which will be the largest battery plant in Colorado. Duncan McEwen, lead mechanical engineer on the project, talked folks through air and water filtering, chemical storage, and safety measures while David Semproch, lead architect, explained fire prevention and control measures, like the four-hour-rated firewalls throughout the existing building.
Celebrating Pride! Our LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group recently announced its new name following a member poll. The ERG will now be PRIDE, which stands for "People Respecting Identities, Diversity, and Equality," to better reflect the goals the group has set for themselves. The name was announced on a recent call with ERG members and our CEO, Vince. This month, PRIDE is holding two events to celebrate Pride Month—the first, a webinar on LGBTQIA+ history and everyday allyship presented by educator and activist JD Valladares-Williams, and the second, a Catalyst webinar called “Allyship in Action.” Our Toledo Employee Club is also hosting a Pride Month lunch at our headquarters to benefit Equality Toledo. #PrideMonth #chooseSSOE
Mi casa es su casa. Last week our Chihuahua, Mexico office hosted an open house event, welcoming staff, clients, and special guests to christen the new workspace. The celebration included a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, music, hors d'oeuvres, and more. SSOE’s Catherine Myers, Matthew Oberts, and Brandon Darroch traveled south of the border to join them. Just a decade ago, we opened our first office in León, Guanajuato to support the region’s booming automotive manufacturing industry. Today, the office has doubled in size, employing over 100 associates, and has become the firm’s third-largest office. #SSOEmexico #chooseSSOE
We're excited to celebrate our 150th hire in 2023 on the heels of being named a Great Place to Work for the sixth time. As we outpace our 2022 performance in both revenue and market share, we view the recruitment and retention of top talent as a strategic focus. Upwards from last year's 89%, this year 93% of employees rated SSOE as a great place to work—compared to a benchmark of 57% for the average U.S. company. SSOE's Vince DiPofi, CEO, and Brad Rowe, Senior Vice President of People and Culture, quoted within. #PressRelease #chooseSSOE
