Structurally sound: SSOE’s Bill Kussro, Principal and Master Structural Engineer, was recently named Associate Member of the ASCE 7-28 Main Committee and Dead and Live Load Subcommittee, which oversee changes to the loading standard for general structural design on projects throughout the U.S. as well as internationally. Bill leads our Structural Practice Group and is responsible for the overall direction of structural engineering resources across the company. His leadership both in and outside of SSOE directly influences building codes and standards industry-wide that advance the nation’s quality and protect the public.
People on the move! SSOE’s Brian Watko, PMP, is featured on Portland Business Journal’s website for his recent promotion to Principal Division Manager of Advanced Technology – Tool Install Operations. Brian, a project manager by trade specializing in high-tech manufacturing who joined our firm in 2013, has been on the fast track to success since he started—being promoted to department manager in 2017 and division manager in 2020. #SSOEportland

Not only did our project make the cover, but we were ranked #2 Manufacturing Design Firm, named a Top 50 International Designer for the first time in SSOE history, and listed among the Top 100 Pure Designers. In addition, we moved up 7 spots in the overall list and CEO Vince DiPofi was quoted within.
Did you hear the news? SSOE was this year’s recipient of the AIA Georgia People's Choice Award for our work on the Avondale Estates Town Green project. This multi-award-winning greenspace—complete with performance and market pavilions—replaced two underutilized city-owned acres, creating a heart for the downtown area and a catalyst for economic growth. #SSOEsoutheast
Tomorrow is Earth Day, and SSOE is investing in our planet by helping address the issue of climate justice. We recognize the impacts of climate change are not evenly distributed and vulnerable communities are disproportionately affected. Social, economic, and political inequalities exacerbate the effects of climate change, and a just and sustainable future is one where everyone has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. In celebration of this year’s Earth Day, we’re making a $7,500 donation to The Solutions Project, a national nonprofit that funds and amplifies climate justice solutions created by frontline communities building an equitable and regenerative economy. This organization provides grants to boost the efforts of grassroots initiatives already delivering climate solutions in neighborhoods across the country. #EarthDay #SSOEcares
The opportunity of a lifetime! After learning that one of our employee’s daughters was selected to participate in the L'Alqueria del Basket International Basketball Tournament in Valencia, Spain, SSOE insisted on being a sponsor. The package included round-trip travel accommodations for Irma Leon, a NICET-certified mechanical engineer in our Mexico office and proud mother of 10-year-old Sofia, who was excited to report upon her return that the Mexico team won second place in the global competition. #SSOEmexico #SSOEcares
