People on the move! SSOE’s Carey Russell, PE is featured on Portland Business Journal’s website for her recent promotion to Principal Division Manager of Advanced Technology – Basebuild Operations. Hats off to SSOE’s Candice Harrison, Director of DEI, who is the 2023 recipient of the Community Service Award from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs Maumee Bay chapter. Candice has built valuable relationships across the community thanks to her involvement in organizations like the African American Leadership Council of United Way, Rotary Club, Diversity Equity Access and Inclusion (DEAI) Alliance, and others in her hometown of Toledo where SSOE has been headquartered for nearly 75 years.
Our Mumbai team rounded out its recent “collaboration week” with a field trip to a water and amusement park in the beautiful Western Ghats. We spent the day on water slides and roller coasters, all in the spirit of team building. Interested in a fun and thrilling career? Explore our openings in India. #SSOEindia #chooseSSOE
Grizzly strong! Our team had a great time at the Georgia Gwinnett College convocation center groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week. Expected to open in October 2024, the 72,280 SF multi-use facility will not only become the front door to the campus but will create great memories and lifelong connections for the GGC community. SSOE is the architect of record and structural engineer on the project, working with our partners Hughes Group Architects and RMF Engineering. #SSOEsoutheast
Development in the Beltline: In this CoreNet Global blog article, Laura Morton, Senior Architect at SSOE, expands on our community-driven project Pittsburgh Yards in Atlanta. The 70,000 SF makerspace development, funded through the Annie E. Casey Foundation, was designed to be the vision of the community and serve as a pillar for equitable change in the NPU-V neighborhood—downtown Atlanta’s newest opportunity zone. #SSOEsoutheast
Investing in women, investing in STEM! At the end of March, we joined the Society of Women Engineers for the SSOE-sponsored WE Local event in Seattle. Today, women make up 58% of the national labor force, but only 30% of the STEM workforce. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career for women through an exciting array of training and development programs, networking opportunities, scholarships, and outreach / advocacy activities. We had a great time and even ran into some friends while we were there! #chooseSSOE
At SSOE, our culture of continuous learning is apparent in everything we do—from our employer-sponsored training, development, and licensure programs to our basic approach to work life. #PressRelease #chooseSSOE
SSOE in Mexico was recently honored with the Empresas de Diez certification! Empresas de Diez is a program that recognizes companies that comply with their employer obligations and have excellent fiscal and legal behavior with INFONAVIT. Erick Kuri, Mexico Operations Director, accepted the award at last week’s event where we were publicly recognized. It was great timing with our office in Mexico recently celebrating its 10-year anniversary. #SSOEmexico #chooseSSOE
Last week, SSOE in Atlanta hosted 33 freshman students from the Florida A&M University School of Architecture and Engineering Technology. In addition to the elevator rides and views of the city, our visitors enjoyed seeing what a day in the life of an architect and engineer looks like. SSOE’s Jakiel and Tsega both did a fantastic job describing their career paths and the importance of collaboration while providing great advice to the next generation of STEM professionals. #SSOEsoutheast #chooseSSOE
Over the past couple of weeks, our LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group, in partnership with the United Way of Greater Toledo (who shares their office space with us at our world headquarters), held a food drive in support of EQUALITY TOLEDO's Community Pantry. Employees from both organizations stepped up for the community, collecting binfuls of items from the nonprofit's wish list. Deanna Grady, who heads this voluntary, employee-led group, dropped off food and toiletries on what ended up being a very rainy Saturday to help ensure that food-insecure young people and their families have barrier-free access to these items. #SSOEcares
