SSOE celebrates Black History Month! Since 1976, February has been recognized as a time to acknowledge and celebrate the countless contributions and achievements of Black Americans—including those right here at SSOE. We’re excited to share we’ve launched our Black / African American Resource Group (BAARG) internally, a community to encourage, educate, mentor, and empower current and future Black / African American employees. SSOE’s employee resource groups are voluntary, employee-led groups that aim to foster a diverse, inclusive workplace, support personal and career development, and provide a safe space where employees can bring their authentic selves to work. #BlackHistoryMonth

Right now, a major roadblock to any industrial project is supply chain delays—resulting in some clients opting to postpone design. SSOE's Greg Brogley discusses the ever-important need for scheduling and exploring “alternate and innovative” engineering solutions based on what is available in this recent Building Design+Construction article.
Celebrating our newest shareholders! One of the many things that makes SSOE a great place to work is the opportunity we provide our employees to purchase equity in the company. While we’ve always been employee-owned and employee-driven, we recently expanded our stock ownership program to associate-level employees. By creating a culture of ownership, we’re able to motivate new levels of leadership to make decisions in our firm’s best interest and capitalize on the value we’re creating. This year, we added a record 138 new members to our stock ownership program. Nearly 45% of the associates eligible to purchase stock chose to do so, demonstrating our employees’ commitment to SSOE and its future. #chooseSSOE

This year marks 60 years since the March on Washington when Dr. King delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. To commemorate his legacy, SSOE leadership in Toledo—in partnership with The Art Tatum Zone—spent the afternoon of MLK Day at The Toledo Museum of Art building "dream kits" for students at Pickett Academy. The kits, which we wrapped and included a handwritten message with, included a soft blanket, a book about Dr. King, and more. #MLKday #SSOEcares
Earlier this week, SSOE sponsored the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Toledo Chapter’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast. The event began 31 years ago as an effort to raise funds in support of scholarships for exemplary young men in the area. Today, the fraternity has awarded over $200,000 in scholarships with recipients going on to become productive contributors to our local community as well as communities across the U.S. Several of our employees, along with members of our executive management team, attended the event and invited students from the University of Toledo’s National Society of Black Engineers to join us. #MLKday #SSOEcares
At SSOE, attainment of professional licensures and certifications is strongly encouraged. In fact, we cover the expense of preparation classes and exam fees as well as provide employees paid time off to take the exam. As an added incentive, once an employee has passed an exam, they're also awarded a recognition bonus. #chooseSSOE
