SSOE celebrates Black History Month! Since 1976, February has been recognized as a time to acknowledge and celebrate the countless contributions and achievements of Black Americans—including those right here at SSOE. Throughout the month, SSOE is matching contributions made by employees to the National Society of Black Engineers, a nonprofit that promotes interest in engineering and technology and offers support to students by developing programs to build and maintain a pipeline of professionals in the technical fields from which we draw. #BlackHistoryMonth
Next week, SSOE’s Evan Baker, Data / Fire / Security Specialist and Department Manager, will be presenting to the Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers Toledo Chapter. Evan will review a past project for an investor-owned utility client where we implemented site hardening strategies at critical sites following a sniper attack to a Silicon Valley power substation. Attendees will learn about our approach as we developed the criteria for this very complicated project.

A day on, not a day off! In celebration of MLK Day last week, which SSOE recently announced as a paid holiday, some of our employees took time to serve their communities as a way to honor Dr. King’s legacy and live out our vision of designing and building the future for our clients, colleagues, and communities. From volunteering at food banks and donation centers to getting their hands dirty thinning out wetlands for local wildlife or fundraising for their favorite nonprofit, these employees took action to support causes that mattered to them personally. Press Release: SSOE Group Announces Martin Luther King Jr. Day as Paid Holiday for Employees. In the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy and commitment to service, our executive management team has committed to volunteering in their local communities on their day off and are encouraging SSOE employees to do the same. Employees who volunteer at least four hours on MLK Day will have a $100 donation made to their nonprofit of choice. The addition of MLK Day expands SSOE’s paid holidays to nine per year and will be included as part of SSOE’s flexible holiday policy, which allows employees to choose when they take it.
