At 92, Helen Bigelow is still creating, still sharing, still growing. Her first children’s book, Pat’s Cat, is now finding its way into the hands of young readers across the Bay Area, thanks to a meaningful partnership between Sequoia Living and Empowering Children Bay Area. With support from Senior Services for Northern California (SSNC), the philanthropic organization of Sequoia Living purchased 30 copies of Pat’s Cat, which have been gifted to students at Roosevelt Elementary School, where each child will receive their own book. It will also be featured as a read-aloud across all 16 Empowering Children Bay Area (ECBA) school sites. It’s a simple but powerful connection, a resident’s story reaching a new generation, sparking imagination, and reinforcing the importance of community and friendship. At the end of February, twenty senior-level leaders in skilled nursing, senior living and home care were announced as 2026 inductees into the Hall of Honor in the annual McKnight’s Women of Distinction awards program. They will be celebrated along with an impressive group of other award winners May 4 in Chicago at the McKnight’s Women of Distinction Awards and Forum. Among the honorees was President and CEO of Sequoia Living, Sara McVey. The Hall of Honor category recognizes women executives who have had an outsized effect on their organization or sector.
