After eighteen months of designing the prototype, United Way Worldwide is ready to launch the "Modern United Way". This new way of working will be piloted by United Way Bay Area. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMl65
United Way, California Capital Region, is addressing the woeful lack of financial literacy in America by introducing the concept of saving to the very youngest students--kindergarteners! With a seed of $25 donated to each student's account, they kicked off the college savings of these youngsters and their families. The Young Leaders Society that launched this program know they're on the right track. Studies show that if a child has even a small amount saved for college, he or she is three times more likely to attend and four times more likely to graduate. So, they partnered with SAFE Credit Union and California Assemblymember Kevin McCarty to offer the K2C Program. The class of 2030 will certainly thank them! http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMeYX
#UnitedforHumanity - that's where United Way stands, as this letter to Congress from United Way Worldwide CEO Brian Gallagher makes clear. As Brian says, "We must redefine the narrative around migration and see this issue through human eyes." http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMtIJ
Thanks to a vital partnership between United Way of Columbia-Willamette and local agencies like Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), Danait is starting a new career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She has learned English, made friends, and is looking forward to seeing her baby daughter, Hayep, " grow up to be a strong, successful woman and follow her dreams." http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMt70
At local United Ways all across the country, staff lives our "Give, Advocate, and Volunteer" motto every day. This group of staff served 533 lunches at a local church hot meal program last week. One volunteer described the experience this way: "When I could look up from the trays flying past me, I tried to look at the clients there - all walks of life, some in ties, others clearly without a regular home. Seniors, young people, and all ages in between...I was touched by the staff serving us lunch after we cleaned up. I think that is a beautiful tradition." http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMBls
The United to End Homelessness initiative, empowered by the Orange County (CA) United Way, is a powerful collaboration between the county’s top business, philanthropic, governmental, faith-based and non-profit leaders, and caring residents. Since beginning work on this initiative, OCUW has learned A LOT about homelessness. Not least among their learnings: There is no one- size -fits-all solution to homelessness--any more than there is a "one and done" solution. Ending homelessness requires a healthy and robust system of care. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vM9Bf
Generation Z may be on its way to changing the work world even more than its predecessor, the Millennial Generation, but don't count the Boomers out just yet. They are on course to change the face of retirement. Give 5 , “a civic matchmaking program” supported by United Way of the Ozarks and the City of Springfield, has been so successful and is so popular that it's being licensed to other communities. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMPV3
United Ways around the world embrace the motto "Live United"...It's one of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.Another way is the in-house celebrations and educational moments staff create around national awareness months like Women's History Month. At United Way Bay Area, such activities almost always include a giving back moment like a book drive or a mini-fundraiser. UWBA is proud that it's in-house mini-fundraiser for a domestic violence survivor's shelter, Ruby's Place, exceeded its goal! We're also pretty pleased with ourselves for using our new employee engagement tool, Salesforce Philanthropy Cloud, to run our in-house Women's History Month campaign. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMvdh

Meeting just a few of the people who have been helped by the United Way of Greenville, South Carolina makes you understand why we are so committed to our mantra: Give, Advocate, and Volunteer. Hearing them tell, in their own words, what a difference United Way has made in their lives will make your heart sing.
