Pros

The First Command culture surpasses that of any other workplace I've experienced. The home office campus is beautiful, making it an inviting place to work. Senior leadership takes the time to ensure that you have the resources needed to do your job, and they encourage you to reach out if you need their help. Pay and benefits are excellent.

Cons

Insurance is not active until after the first 90 days of employment.

Thank you for sharing your positive experience and for the role you play in helping make our home office an inviting and inspiring place to work. We’re glad to hear our culture and leadership support have made a meaningful difference in your time at First Command. We’d also like to clarify your feedback around benefits. First Command is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the health and well-being of employees and their families. This includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverage, as well as wellness programs, long-term care, legal assistance, identity theft protection, an employee assistance program, and pet insurance. Coverage for you and your eligible dependents becomes effective on the first day of the calendar month coincident with or after 60 days of employment, following classification as a Regular Full-Time or eligible Part-Time employee. We appreciate your feedback and are grateful to have you on the team.

Pros

Offer 2 flexible "holiday" days on top of regular ones, offer hybrid work for some depts allowing to work some days at home, esop program is nice, Christmas bonus is a big plus, love on campus lunch companies

Cons

Waaaay too much mandatory overtime, management is horrible (at least in my dept) & no way to hold the accountable, systems/programs are constantly going down where we can't even do our job, a ridiculous amount of completely unnecessary meetings, pay isn't great, they treat tenured employees terribly and new hires with no experience get paid more, resources are severely lacking

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We appreciate your long tenure and the contributions you've made over the years. We're glad to hear you find value in elements such as our flexible holidays, hybrid work options, ESOP program, and annual bonus—these are just a few of the ways we aim to support our team members. We also recognize that some of the concerns you’ve raised regarding department-specific management practices, system reliability, workload, and compensation equity, are serious and deserve attention. Your feedback has been shared with the appropriate internal teams to ensure these experiences are examined with care and context. While we cannot address individual department issues publicly, we are committed to fostering a work environment where employees feel heard, respected, and valued. If you’d like to share more details confidentially, we encourage you to speak directly with your HR business partner or use our internal feedback channels. Your voice matters, and we thank you again for speaking up.

Pros

I was given this opportunity to work in the company without having any prior knowledge of the industry. I have been given the opportunity to work in office and remotely. I have worked as a W-2 employee and as a freelance admin. During both opportunities, I have been given on-the-job training, bonuses, pay raises, incentives and room to progress in training and certifications. There is the this unique culture within the company that understands my lifestyle as a military spouse which has allowed me to balance my work and home life. Because of the connections I made in the company, I have been able to work in multiple districts, divisions and amongst multiple advisor teams.

Cons

There is a high turnover in the number of advisors I have had to work for and each office offers different pays and is not consistent across the company. Bonuses and incentives are all dependent on each independent advisor. And although I have been blessed to keep my position in multiple states, there were times I had to wait for the position to open before being able to work again.

We’re thrilled to hear how your time at First Command has offered you both growth and flexibility, especially as a military spouse. Your experience navigating various office types and roles while balancing home life is a powerful example of our mission in action. We also appreciate your thoughtful feedback regarding consistency in assistant recognition and training across Advisor offices. Since each office operates independently, compensation and team structure can vary, but we’re continuing to explore ways to share best practices and elevate support roles across the company.
