In honor of International Women in Engineering Day, we’re hearing from members of the SRP Employee Resource Groups Females in Technology and Women’s Interest Network. Here’s what they have to say about the importance of this day and representation in the workforce. Marly Gutierrez, Engineer in Distribution Integration "It’s important to celebrate Women in Engineering Day to showcase different women’s experiences in the workforce. Hearing how others overcame challenges and made a name for themselves in the industry gives me the confidence to keep working towards my career goals.” Christine Fini, Engineer in Distribution Planning "Celebrating Women in Engineering Day is an opportunity to bring the experience of a woman working as an engineer at SRP back to top of mind. It is one way to show that SRP values and supports women working in this field that is still significantly male-dominated." Heather Rogers, Engineer in Substation Design “Celebrating Women in Engineering Day is a day to celebrate courage, change and opportunity. It is a day to celebrate women who have the courage to pursue an interest in a male- dominated field, women who continuously change the historical gender dominance in the engineering fields, and the women who give light to the countless opportunities available in this country.”
SRP VETs, one of SRP's 10 Employee Resource Groups, honored the fallen with a luncheon on May 24. The event featured speaker George Palermo, a service-connected disabled veteran, who shared perspective on the importance of this day: “Memorial Day is a time to reflect on and honor our brothers and sisters that paid the ultimate price, reflect on my service, and remember the price it takes for the freedom we enjoy,” said Palermo.
