As summer draws to an end, we can’t help but reminisce over this season’s wellness events. From our outdoor amenities to our farmers market, we’ve taken full advantage of the fresh air and sunshine. One of the newer tournaments added to our slate of outdoor activities is pickleball. When interviewed, Jaycee B., Project Manager, Marketing, had the following to say about this fun sport. “I started playing in 2012 when I went to Dixie State. I was pretty much hooked from the first time I played. I’ve met some really cool people here who are a ton of fun to play with. They’re way better than I am, so they keep me on my toes. It’s always fun to have some friendly competition.” What brought Jaycee to 1-800? “The culture, hands down. I knew from my first interview that this company was different from others. It’s a place where managers care about your future. They want to push you and help you to excel. I feel like I have people on my side here who want the best for me.” What makes her stay? “The culture, friends, and the food. And, of course, pickleball.”
We had a great time hosting the Product Hive UT chapter last week at our Draper campus. This meetup, hosted by our own Mike Curtis, Product Designer, gave product managers and designers throughout the valley the chance to come together and collaborate on ways to excel within scrum teams. There were four fantastic panelists that evening, including 1-800 Contacts alumni member, Trae Winterton. That evening, panelists shared experiences and tips on what has helped them find success with their own processes and teams. Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions and be part of the dialogue. It was a great learning environment, which focused on establishing user research practices. Best quote from the evening? “Don’t be afraid to tell us our baby is ugly.” Panelist, Caitlin Grandjean, emphasized the value in encouraging honest feedback from the user during testing to ensure the best results. What advice have you been given that has positively influenced your work and career? #lifeat1800contacts #uiux #collaboration
We’ll be the first to admit it—we are pretty spoiled here at 1-800. When company perks include a full-fledged restaurant with heavily subsidized pricing, a rotating menu with options like Mahi Mahi and steak, a robust salad bar, and an online ordering system, work-life is pretty great. Think it stops at lunch? They do say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Our chefs are dedicated to providing equally delicious breakfast options. Picture stuffed crepes, Greek yogurt bowls, and quiche—here’s your virtual hankie in case you’re drooling. But what makes our restaurant experience truly special is the crew that makes the magic happen. Today we’re recognizing two of our amazing associates, Rigoberto and Carlos. Together they boast over 17 years at our company. They have tirelessly prepared thousands of meals, making our day through their culinary skills and dedication. Expanding our breakfast menu was a recent undertaking for our restaurant staff, and its success has been in large part due to these two. Thank you, Rigo and Carlos, for sharing your talent and passion with us!
